Continuing my discussion of what it is to be male and why we are the way that we are, I would like to discuss a few of the things that have plagued non-males for many years.
The first is, as I mentioned previously, that males have the ability to become more attached and more devoted to a pair of jeans than they are to the women in their lives.
This is not an indication on how the male in your life feels about you, ladies. The truth is, it is the ''comfort factor'' that we inherently have.
It is easy to say that the female subspecies is more likely to fall in love with an article of clothing than a male, and I believe this to be very untrue. Females are much more likely to fall in love with clothing in general, but for individual articles of clothing, no one falls deeper in love with them than males.
Example: I have, no exaggeration, eight pairs of jeans that are completely different from one another. I have old jeans, new jeans, slim legs jeans, baggy jeans and a favorite pair that have a hole by the back pocket.
However, among those jeans is one single pair that I call my ''everyday'' jeans. This is the pair that I can wear at any time with anything. These are the go-to jeans I grab when rushing out the door or matching up with a button shirt for a dinner date.
I love these jeans. Why? Because they fit perfectly and are reliable. I am always comfortable in them and I will wear them, literally, until they fall apart.
I am committed to these jeans.
And this does not just happen with my jeans; it can happen with a sweatshirt or a T-shirt or a pair of shorts, but when you find an article of clothing that fits perfectly are always comfortable and can be relied on at any time, you stick with it!
Much like a loving female?
Well, yes.
See, I have been in only a couple of relationships in my life. I have been with my wife for eight years now, and it wasn't long into our relationship that I knew that I wanted to be with her and no one else.
Then, I got comfortable. I knew that she was reliable, and in my male mind, I knew that she was always going to be there for me whenever I needed her ... until I wore her out.
But, as most men have realized at some point in their lives ... women are not jeans. They are not made of a durable denim, and a truly wonderful female cannot be replaced when the seams start to come apart.
It's easy for a male to commit themselves to a good pair of pants, because in the male ''comfort factor'' commitment requires no work. If I spill a little paint or coffee on my pants ... oh well, they're my pants and I don't care. But when you do something to upset a relationship, a male must work on fixing it.
Dabbing it with a wet wipe you got at a rib joint is not going to fix saying something insensitive to your loved ones.
Why are we like this?
No one knows!
All I know is that I realized, thankfully, that I did not want to lose my wife or that pair of jeans with the hole in them, so I committed to them both because I love them.
