I first tried this dish at a small Italian restaurant in Germany. It was a very creamy pasta with peas and white sauce. Since the restaurant delivered to our post and getting pizza delivery every day was getting old, this quickly became one of my favorites.
I soon came up with my own version of this recipe, and I must warn you that this dish will send your cholesterol numbers skyward. So don't forget your Lipitor and fish oil pills, because this dish is tasty.
This pasta carbonara recipe is based on one served at an Italian restaurant in Germany.
2 sticks real butter
1 pint heavy cream
1 cup Romano cheese
1 pound crumbled bacon
1 tablespoon parsley
2 pounds thick pasta (fettuccini, linguini or egg noodles)
In a large mixing bowl combine eggs, cream and butter. Let sit at room temp for 90 minutes.
Boil pasta until it's done. Drain well and stir immediately into the cream mixture. The hot pasta will cook the mixture.
Mix in crumbled bacon and Romano cheese. Top with parsley and enjoy.
