PsyCare Inc. announces the appointments of RON D. FASANO as clinic director of the Psycare Boardman office and MICHELE L. HAWN as clinic director for the Psycare Canfield office.

A Boardman resident, Fasano has been with PsyCare since 2008. He has a diversified background in counseling, management and public health. His training and experience qualify him as an expert in treating a wide array of issues involving depression, anxiety, addictions, trauma, relationships, and personal and professional development issues.

Hawn, of Cortland, has been with PsyCare since 2006 specializing in individual, couple and family counseling / psychotherapy. Prior to that, Hawn worked at the Neil Kennedy Recovery Clinic in conjunction with the Mahoning County Juvenile Justice Center as a residential substance abuse counselor and was also associated with the Family Counseling & Children Services, as well as Sharon Regional Behavioral Health Services.

Hawn is independently licensed as a professional clinical counselor, a national certified counselor and is certified as a chemical dependency counselor assistant. She is also trained in family systems theory, transgenerational cycles and dysfunctional patterns in relationships, and is an EMDR trained trauma therapist. She has more than four years experience specifically in utilizing behavior modification with children having autism spectrum disorders. Hawn holds a master's degree in educational guidance and counseling, specializing in marriage and family counseling from the University of Akron and an undergraduate degree in psychology from Youngstown State University. Hawn has performed post-master's coursework in program development / school counseling.

COMMUNITY LEGAL AID, a non-profit law firm serving the civil legal needs of the low income community, along with members of the Trumbull County Bar Association, will be conducting a will clinic for income-eligible elderly Trumbull County residents. Attorneys will complete simple wills, power of attorney, living wills and health care power of attorney documents at no cost to the participant. HEALTHAMERICA has signed a new long-term agreement with the Surgical Hospital at Southwoods. The Surgical Hospital at Southwoods offers inpatient, outpatient, and surgical services to residents of Youngstown and members of surrounding communities.

The Surgical Hospital at Southwoods is a licensed acute care hospital offering both inpatient and outpatient services. Radiology, advanced imaging, sleep studies and pain management services are also offered.

THE ALZHEIMER'S ASSOCIATION will be holding their monthly Caregiver Support Groups on the following dates:

SLIMDOWN, a six-week weight management program taught by registered dietitians who are certified in weight management, will begin classes the first week of January at Humility of Mary Health Partners sites in Warren and Boardman. Classes are scheduled for 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Tuesdays, Jan. 4 to Feb. 8 at St. Joe's at the Mall, Eastwood Mall, Niles; and Thursdays, Jan. 6 to Feb, 10 at St. Elizabeth Boardman Health Center, 5401 Market Street, Boardman. Cost is $40 for new participants and $20 for repeat participants.Dietitians will teach lifestyle changes in food, activities and behaviors. Also, Humility of Mary Health Partners and the staff of the D.D. and Velma Davis Family YMCA in Boardman have teamed up to provide a SLIMDOWN FOR KIDS weight management program Jan. 3 to Feb. 10. Participants meet from 5 to 6 p.m. Mondays and Thursdays for fitness activities and 5 to 6:30 p.m. on Wednesdays for a nutrition class, which parents/guardians also attend. The first hour of the nutrition class is child focused and the last half hour is for parents/guardians only while the child takes part in more fitness activities. Registered dietitians certified in childhood and adolescent weight management teach the nutrition classes; fitness classes are taught by YMCA fitness instructors. All classes are held at the D.D. and Velma Davis Family YMCA at 45 McClurg Road, Boardman.
