THE AUSTINTOWN SENIOR CENTER, 100 Westchester Drive, will offer several new activities and services starting in December.

Celtic Healthcare will provide free blood pressure checks every Monday at the center from 10 a.m. to noon.

Yoga, line dance, and walking exercise classes are now forming. Seniors can sign up for these and other activities at the table near the front entrance to the senior center.

The half-hour TV show "Senior Focus," broadcast on Austintown Community Television Channel 19 and Armstrong Cable Channel 20, is now taping at the center. Seniors are welcome to join the audience. Upcoming guests include Carol Moore and Kristen Taylor today at noon. They will discuss Medicare open enrollment and senior insurance issues.

On Dec. 3 also at noon, Dorothy Barto will talk about Alzheimer's disease and local support groups and resources available to help.

HOME INSTEAD SENIOR CARE is teaming up with nonprofit agencies and area retailers to sponsor Be a Santa to a Senior - a program that collects, wraps and delivers gifts to lonely and needy seniors in the Youngstown/Boardman area. The program runs through Dec. 6. Important dates include: Dec. 9: community gift-wrapping party, to which the general public is invited to help; and Dec. 13-17: delivery of gifts to seniors in the community.

Ward Center Presbyterian Church, 490 Lucy St., Masury, will serve FREE LUNCHES for senior citizens 60 and older from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. the third and fourth Wednesdays of each month.

THE OHIO DEPARTMENT OF AGING is accepting nominations through Nov. 30 for its Joined Hearts in Giving award. The honor recognizes couples married 40 years or longer who share a commitment not only to each other but also to their communities through volunteer service. Those chosen will be honored at a special reception held in observance of Valentine's Day.

To be eligible for recognition, the couple must be married for 40 years or longer and at least one of the spouses must be age 60 or older. Each spouse must actively participate and volunteer in community service, and the couple's primary residence must be in Ohio. The couple must be aware of and consent to the nomination.

Anyone interested in nominating neighbors, colleagues, family members or friends may download a nomination form or submit a nomination online by visiting www.aging.ohio.gov/

The TRUMBULL COUNTY NUTRITION PROGRAM FOR THE ELDERLY is provided by the Trumbull County Office of Elderly Affairs and operates nutrition sites at 10 locations throughout Trumbull County. These sites provide a meal and the opportunity for socialization. Donations will be accepted.

Any senior citizen 60 and older and spouses of those 60 and older are welcome for lunch at any of the following sites:

THE KINSMAN SENIOR CITIZEN NUTRITION SITE is open every Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday to seniors 60 or older or those whose spouse is 60 or older. Meals are served about noon at the Kinsman Fire Hall. Cost is $1.25 per meal, and the doors open at 10 a.m.

Cards and bingo are played every day, and singing is on Wednesdays.

FOWLER-VIENNA SENIOR CITIZENS meet every Thursday at the Fowler Community Center.

The group meets from 9:30 a.m. or later to play cards and games, celebrate birthdays and anniversaries and for a 50/50 raffle and meals. Special meals are served on the fourth Thursday of the month. Cost is $3 each.

All those 55 and older are welcome. Annual dues are $12.

JOHNSTON SENIOR CENTER

THE TRUMBULL COMMUNITY ACTION PROGRAM, 1230 Palmyra Road S.W., Warren, has announced the Winter Crisis Program. Customers who are in need of utility assistance can contact the agency at 330-393-2507, Ext. 225, for an appointment. Walk-in customers are accepted beginning at 7:30 a.m. Monday for the first 20 people to arrive and then again at 12:30 p.m. for the first 20 people who arrived for the afternoon. Walk-ins also will be accepted at 7:30 a.m. Wednesday for the first 20 people. All others are scheduled appointments.

Customers must provide photo identification, Social Security cards for all household members; most recent gas and/or fuel oil receipt, electric bill and proof of all money received in the home for the past 13 weeks, if employed or child support, or three months proof of income if received monthly. Proof of disability also must be provided.

To be eligible for assistance, customer must have a notice of disconnection on their gas and/or electric utilities. A household is eligible to receive a delivery of fuel if their tank contains 25 percent or less of its capacity or a delivery of coal or wood.
