Township to plant tulips for survivors

November 8, 2010
Howland Community News

Responding to a fundraiser for The American Cancer Society, township officials purchased 100 pink tulip bulbs for the administration building to dedicate to cancer survivors.

''We want to remind women how important it is to have regular screenings,'' said Township Administrator Darlene St. George.

Township cancer survivors are invited to help plant the bulbs beginning at 9 a.m. Nov. 13, St. George said.

Those who want to help out in honor of someone else are also welcome to participate, she said.

Once the bulbs come up and bloom in the spring, signs will be placed in the tulip gardens to remind women to get regular screenings.

''We are hopeful in the spring we will have beautiful pink tulips at the administration building to make people aware,'' St. George said.

If the pink tulip garden is a success, more tulips could be planted in the future around the park gazebo and other locations in the township, St. George said.
