THE LOW-VISION SUPPORT GROUP at Park Vista Retirement Community will meet at 10 a.m. today in the Park VistaNorth Lounge, 1310 Fifth Ave., Youngstown. The topic, "Low Vision Tricks and Treats" will be presented by Debbie Kogler from Magnifiers and More. Kogler, along with her service dog Murphy, will talk about tricks (hints) and treats (low vision aids) to help us live as independently as possible. She will have a variety of low vision aids available to purchase after the meeting. The Low-Vision Support Group meets the second Tuesday of each month and provides information, support and resources for people with vision impairment. THE HOWLAND HEALTH AND WELLNESS COMMITTEE will meet at 7 p.m. today, at the Township Administration Building.

In March 2010, Dr. James J. LaPolla Jr. established this committee with the cooperative efforts of Barbara Rosenblum, R.N., to promote a healthier lifestyle for the residents of Howland. The committee includes Janet Shiley, M.D., Gary Kraker, D.O., Donald Mills, D.C., Carol Williams, Kenneth and Elizabeth MacPhenson, in addition to a township liaison. In order to provide the programs of interest to the township residents, input is needed. THE MULTIPLE SCLEROSIS SERVICES AGENCY TRUMBULL COUNTY SUPPORT GROUP will meet at 7 p.m. today, at the Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, 490 N. High St., Cortland. THE TRUMBULL COUNTY HEALTH DEPARTMENT will be providing flu vaccine to everyone 19 years and older at Pamida in Newton Falls, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Wednesday. The cost of the vaccine is $20 cash, check or credit card. Only the following insurances will be accepted: Traditional Medicare Part B, Traditional Medicaid or Caresource. At this time the managed care Medicare providers (Anthem, Aetna etc.) are unable to be billed. A receipt will be provided for reimbursement from those providers.

THE YOUNGSTOWN YMCA is helping to build a healthier community with its annual Health Fair from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Wednesday, at the Central Branch in Youngstown. The Youngstown City Health Department will be on hand offering flu shots for $12 and pneumonia shots for $30. In addition, the St. Elizabeth Heath Center Blood Lab will offer a variety of screenings to the community ranging from $5 to $20.

The American Red Cross will also be hosting a blood drive at the Health Fair from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Free health screenings and services will also be available and include vision and hearing screenings, bone density screenings, blood pressure check, glucose screenings, glaucoma screenings, carbon monoxide screenings and chair massages. Visitors can also stop by to learn more about health and wellness from local hospitals, agencies and medical professionals that will be on hand. The One Health Ohio Van will also be on site.

THE MAHONING VALLEY NEW VOICE CLUB, a support group for laryngectomees and their families / friends, will hold its next meeting at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, at the Youngs-town Hearing and Speech Center, located in the Beeghly Medical Park, 6614 Southern Blvd., Youngstown. THE MAHONING COUNTY PARKINSON'S SUPPORT GROUP will meet from 2 to 4 p.m. on Thursday at Park Vista Retirement Community, 1216 Fifth Ave., Youngstown. Brenda Brady, Park Vista's Case Manager, will present a video testimonial documenting the successful use of the HydroWorx therapy pool with a Parkinson's patient. The HydroWorx 2000 rehabilitation pool is a new addition to Park Vista's therapy program. She will also address coping mechanisms and physiological problems associated with the disease.

The group meets the second Thursday of each month from 2 to 4 p.m. at Park Vista. Free parking is available in the lot in back of the building.

Dr. Ted Suzelis, N.D. will be presenting a lecture entitled, "NATURAL ATHLETIC PERFORMANCE ENHANCEMENT" at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, at his Boardman office, located in the Southbridge Executive Park, 725 Boardman-Canfield Road, Suite K-4, Boardman. Dr.Suzelis will discuss natural therapies to improve athletic performance, both physically and mentally. CLEARVIEW LANTERN SUITES, 596 Champion Ave. West, Champion Township, is hosting a flu and pneumonia shot clinic from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Thursday.

The company providing the vaccinations is Maxim Health Systems. Medicare Part B pays for this completely. other insurances and HMO will require the individual to pay for the shots and then submit for reimbursement. Pre-registration is available for the public from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, by calling 330-847-6800. The cost is $25 for the flu and $40 for the pneumonia shots. Under 18 will need parental consent.

THE ALZHEIMER'S ASSOCIATION will be holding their monthly Caregiver Support Groups on the following dates:

The Rotary Club of Warren, working with the Trumbull Memorial labs, has scheduled its FALL BLOOD ANALYSIS PROGRAM to be 7 to 10 a.m. on Oct. 16, at the SCOPE Senior Center, 220 West Market St., Warren.

For the cost of $36, participants will receive Chemistry, CBC, and Thyroid Profiles. The chemistry profile tests glucose levels, blood urea nitrogen, creatinine, total protein, albumin, calcium, total bilirubin, alkaline phosphatase ,liver function (SGOT & SGPT), triglyceride, globulin, cholesterol levels including HDL, LDL and VLDL. The CBC Profile includes white blood cell count, hemoglobin, hematocrit, and platelet, and the Thyroid Profile tests thyroid function. For an additional $4, participants can add urine testing.

Northeast Ohio HealthForce, in partnership with the Trumbull, Mahoning and Columbiana County One Stops, is presenting a HEALTH CARE CAREER WORKSHOP to be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oct. 19 at Community Outreach Center Champion Presbyterian Church, 4997 Mahoning Ave. N.W., Warren.

This public event will feature speakers Dr. Mark Memo, who will speak on current prostate cancer treatments, and Dr. Michael Obeng, who will speak on breast reconstruction. Cost is $5 at the door. THE NATIONAL ALLIANCE ON MENTAL ILLNESS, NAMI MAHONING VALLEY is conducting the 2010 fall session of its Family-to-Family Education Classes, which detail many aspects of living with a person with mental illness. The classes are structured to help family members understand and support their ill relative while maintaining their own well-being.

The series of 12 weekly classes will run through Nov. 29; class time is from 6 to 9 p.m. Mondays at the Jewish Community Center, 505 Gypsy Lane. There is no cost for family members. Classes will be limited to the first 22 people who register and additional names will be added to the waiting list for the next session. Registration is required. REYERS SHOE STORE, in Downtown Sharon, Pa., kicked off its Breast Cancer Awareness Month and the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Drive, with the opening of their new "Pink" department for young women and the young at heart.

A portion of the proceeds from every pair of shoes purchased at Reyers during the month of October will be donated to the Susan G. Komen for the Cure.

COMMUNITY SOLUTIONS ASSOCIATION, INC. provides Warren and Trumbull County with comprehensive, high quality services and programs designed to strengthen and improve the well being of children, adults, and families in the community.

Community Solutions Association, Inc. (CSA) located at 320 High St., Warren, has launched a new interactive website to provide easily accessible information about its programs. The website features expanded content about intervention, treatment and prevention programs offered by CSA.

CSA's clinical treatment program's services include screening, referral, intake/assessment and a wide array of Alcohol and other Drug Services for adults and adolescents. Among CSA's successful prevention programs are SPARK, Project KIND, bullying prevention, drug, alcohol and tobacco prevention services, and Life Skills for Teens. Intervention programs include DOT approved substance abuse professional services, employee intervention services, and Making Choices. Violence Intervention programs include a 26 week Batterers Intervention Program and WIN (Women Empowered Now) Program which supports women in treatment.

Community Solutions also operates Trumbull County's 24-hour information and referral and crisis prevention and intervention hotline - Trumbull 2-1-1.
