Three senior citizens from Girard were among 25 from Trumbull and Mahoning County recently nominated for the 2010 Valley Legacy Awards.
Geraldine Peterson, Ileene Shaffer-Rozich and S. Paul Wright were nominated for the award of Outstanding Senior. Nominations are provided by members of the community.
Now in its sixth year, Valley Legacy Awards, sponsored by Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Retirement Services, Inc., the annual event honors civic-minded seniors and senior advocates for their contributions to the Mahoning Valley. The nominees will be recognized at a luncheon where awards will be presented to four Outstanding Seniors and two Outstanding Advocates for Seniors.
Also this year, the Cliff Johnson Valley Legacy Memorial Award for Timeless Service to the Community will be presented honoring the memory of Bruce Gordon.
The luncheon, hosted by WKBN-TV weatherman Rich Morgan, will be held Oct. 14 at Mr. Anthony's, 7440 South Ave., Boardman.
