HUBBARD - St. Patrick's School in Hubbard is celebrating its 140th anniversary this year and will hold their first annual dinner auction Sept. 25 at the church hall

The school's anniversary celebrates Catholic education in Hubbard.

The event will include a live auction, a silent auction and 50-50 raffle. Doors open at 6 p.m, for auction table previews. A buffet dinner is at 6:45 p.m. with the auction of various items, following. Tickets are $50 available by calling 330-759-4701 or the school at 330-534-2509 by Sept. 21.

Michael Conlan, a member of the committee that planned the event, said he believes St. Patrick School is among the oldest Catholic schools in the area.

He said St. Patrick Church started a few years before the school which today is for grades kindergarten to eighth.

Conlan said other events are also being planned for the 140th anniversary including an alumni mass at Thanksgiving.

He said the school's alumni association started a newsletter which has included old photos of the school over its 140 years.

Conlan said plans are to hold the dinner auction each fall and in instead of having separate class reunions recognize the graduating classes from St. Patrick School marking a milestone year at the dinner. In 2011, all classes marking 10, 20, 30, 40 and more milestone years will be recognized.

''The alumni we have spoken to want this to become an annual event similar to a class reunion,'' he said.

He said at the dinner there will be a time for remarks.

Current returns indicate 300 people scheduled to attend.

Conlan said all proceeds will benefit the school for general operations.
