THE WELL-CHILD IMMUNIZATION CLINIC will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Girard Health Department. The clinic is $5 per child, and Dr. James J. Enyeart conducts the examinations. Parents are reminded to bring a copy of the child's immunization record. A parent or guardian must accompany children younger than 18. Parents must pre-register by calling the Health Department from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday at 330-545-6048.

A 20-year celebration of LIVING HEALTHY THROUGH PREVENTATIVE HEALTH EDUCATION is being presented by the Mahoning Valley Cancer Coalition, Humility of Mary Health Partners, Forum Health, American Cancer Society and Youngs-town Office on Minority Health.

The celebration will begin with registration at 8:30 a.m. and programs from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 18 at the Metroplex Conference Center, 1620 Motor Inn Drive, Girard.

The purpose of the program is to promote lifestyle changes to reduce diabetes, cancer, hypertension, obesity and other chronic diseases in the minority community through preventative health education.

Mistress of ceremonies is Madonna Chism Pinkard. Speakers include Dr. D. Grace on lung cancer and prostate cancer, and Doris Bullock, a certified aerobics instructor. There also will be door prizes.

Cost is $15 and includes lunch. Registration is required by calling the American Cancer Society at 888-227-6446, Ext. 8200. Deadline to register is Sept. 11.

LIFELINE SCREENING, preventive health screenings that look for risk of stroke, abdominal aortic aneurysms, cardiovascular disease and osteoporosis, will be offered at 9 a.m. Wednesday at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Warren.

All screenings are painless and involve no radiation.

THE TRUMBULL COUNTY HEALTH DEPARTMENT is sponsoring walk-in immunization clinics for children 6 weeks through 18 years at the following locations during the month of September.

l Southington Christian Church - 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Wednesday

l Trumbull County Health Department - 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. and 1 to 4 p.m. Sept. 13

l Mesopotamia Fire Station - 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. and 1 to 3:30 p.m. Sept. 14

l Newton Falls Community Center - 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. and 1 to 3 p.m. Sept. 21

Please be sure to bring your child's immunization record with you. There is an administration fee of $10/visit. No one will be refused for inability to pay. All children younger than 18 must be accompanied by an adult. The 7th grade Tdap vaccine will be available.

THE YOGA ROOM in Cortland is offering Meditation with Maureen at 7 p.m. Friday.

THE JEWISH COMMUNITY CENTER is offering a fall prevention program at 11 a.m. Sept. 15 at the center. Falls are the second leading cause of accidental death in the U.S. Ben Melnykovich, RN, BSAS, Trauma Outreach/Injury Prevention coordinator, from St. Elizabeth Health Center will talk about how to prevent falls. Humility of Mary Health Partners physical therapists will also be on hand test participants' gait and balance.

The lecture is free for members and is $5 for non-members. The program will last for 45 minutes followed by the gait analysis.

A Seneca Allegheny casino trip is being planned to benefit the rehabilitation and medical bills of BOBBY NAMOLA, a Marine veteran, leader of Boy Scout Troop 15, a deputy grand knight with the Knights of Columbus and a 1987 graduate of Western Reserve High School, who was seriously injured when he struck a deer on Bazetta Road. He is now in Mercy Hospital in Pittsburgh in serious condition.

Effective Sept. 1, the AMERICAN CANCER SOCIETY'S Ohio Division and Pennsylvania Division merged to form the new American Cancer Society East Central Division.

The merger was approved by the volunteer boards of directors of both divisions. Garry Pincock, the former Pennsylvania Division CEO, will serve as CEO of the new entity.

The new American Cancer Society East Central Division officers and board of directors will be made up of volunteers from both states. Recently elected board officers are:

September is NATIONAL PROSTATE CANCER AWARENESS MONTH. The American Cancer Society encourages men to discuss the benefits and risks of prostate cancer screening with their doctors.
