Alexis Charles, 10, a fifth-grader at W.S. Guy Middle School, is the Ohio Gymnastics Institute of Youngstown's newest Junior Olympic Champion.
Alexis took home two All-Around National Titles from the 2010 Amateur Athletic Union Junior Olympic Games held July 31 through Aug. 1 at Hampton Roads, Va.
Alexis, the daughter of Tim and Kellie Charles, has been with the Ohio Gymnastics Institute Inc., for nearly seven years. Her favorite event is the floor exercise and her favorite thing about gymnastics is making a lot of great friends while doing a sport she loves.
Alexis also posted high enough scores during finals to sweep every event.
More than 1,500 athletes from across the country traveled to the Boo Williams Sportsplex in Hampton Roads to compete in the competition. The gymnasts competed two separate days, which included a preliminary and a finals competition.
