HILLSIDE REHABILITATION HOSPITAL has received a $3,900 Quality of Life grant from the Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation. The award was one of 89 grants totaling more than $500,000 awarded by the Reeve Foundation to nonprofit organizations nationwide that aid in providing more opportunities, access, and daily quality of life for individuals living with paralysis, their families and caregivers.
Hillside will use the grant to continue to help those living with paralysis become active members in everyday life. Through the Expanding the Dream: Hillside Adapted Sports Program will utilize the grant dollars for bowling, archery and golf fees as well as for competitions/tournaments. Archery, biking, golf, bocce, bowling, and air rifle are among the activities available through this program.
In conjunction with the AUSTINTOWN TOWNSHIP PARK SUMMER CONCERT SERIES, more than four dozen senior citizen artists will be exhibiting their paintings beginning at 7 p.m. today at the park pavilion. The artists range in age from 45 to 99. All are residents of the Briarfield Group assisted living and residence facilities in Austintown and Mineral Ridge.
THE DOWN SYNDROME ASSOCIATION OF THE VALLEY is hosting the "i have a voice" traveling gallery in the Mahoning Valley through Aug. 13 at the Eastwood Mall.
The traveling gallery is a collection of portraits of children and adults with Down syndrome. The portraits are paired with quotations.
The gallery will also be on display at the Buddy Walk of the Valley at the Shops at Boardman Park on Aug. 14 and in front of Macy's in the Southern Park Mall Aug. 14 through 23.
