Students named for Boys State

NILES - Five Niles McKinley High School students have been selected to participate this summer in Ohio Buckeyes Boys State.

Joseph Rossi and Fred Kubli, co-chairman of the Buckeye Boys State Niles American Legion William McKinley Post 106 said attending boys state are Jordan Cline, Rocky Mitolo, Robert Marino, Jared Sliwinski and Brandon Wilkinson.

Buckeye Boys State will be held June 12 to 20 on the Bowling Green State University campus.

The post members selected the five students to participate in the event which is a nine-day intensive education program on Ohio government for high school students. American Legion Buckeye Boys State is a participatory program where each participant becomes a part of the operation of a local, county and state government.

At American Legion Buckeye Boys State, participants are exposed to the rights, privileges, duties and responsibilities of a franchised citizen. The training is objective and practical with a city, county and state government operated by the students elected to the various offices. Activities include legislative sessions, court proceedings, law enforcement presentations, assemblies, a band and recreation.
