The local Home Instead Senior Care Office is offering information to help family members work with their aging family members to sort, organize and dispose of things they no longer want or need.

As spring cleaning gets under way, local experts are encouraging families to help their elder family members clear the clutter from their homes - eliminating potential health and safety hazards. The local office is also partnering with the Trumbull County Sheriff's Office and its Senior Service Unit, the Boardman Police Department and the Austintown Police Department to sponsor a Mission Medicine Event.

The event will take place 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at the following locations: Grace Fellowship Church, 2150 Niles Cortland Road, Warren, Boardman Township Administration Building, 8299 Market St., Boardman; and Austintown Police Department, 92 Ohlman Road, Austintown.

THE GIRARD HIGH SCHOOL CLASS OF 1946 will meet at 1 p.m. the last Wednesday of each month, except November and December, at Amen Corner, 20 W. Main St., Girard. For more information, contact "Bud" Brown at 330-539-5582 or Fred Faiver at 330-539-5837.

UFCW LOCAL 880 RETIREES CLUB will meet at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Lucianno's Restaurant in the Wedgewood Plaza. New members welcome. Meetings are the second Tuesday of each month.

NILES RETIRED TEACHERS will meet at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at Cafe 422 restaurant. Any teacher who has retired from the Niles City School System can attend. This newly formed group will be meeting every other month.

WARREN CITY SCHOOLS RETIRED TEACHERS AND STAFF will meet from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday at Cleats on Elm Road in Warren. This luncheon is for all retired teachers, staff and administrators of the Warren City Schools to get together. Lunch will be ordered on your own and items of interest for retirees will be discussed. Ward Center Presbyterian Church, 490 Lucy St., Masury, will serve FREE LUNCHES for senior citizens 60 and older from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. the third and fourth Wednesdays of each month.

TRUMBULL MEMORIAL HOSPITAL RETIREE CLUB will hold a luncheon meeting at 11:30 a.m. Monday at Buena Vista Cafe in Warren. Ranea Sutliff of the Warren YMCA will present "Stretch Yoga" at 12:30 p.m. She will also discuss the Silver Sneakers Program. All TMH retirees are welcome. LAKE VISTA RETIREMENT COMMUNITY, 303 N. Mecca Road in Cortland, is offering a free seminar, "Giving the Ultimate Gift - Advance Directives, End of Life Decisions," at 9:30 a.m. Thursday in Lake Vista's Clubhouse. Speakers are Connie Morgan, senior independence, and Diane Garthwaite, church relations director, Ohio Presbyterian Services.

Topics include how to begin conversations and become educated about the process of living wills, medical power of attorney and DNR's. There will be a free continental breakfast. RSVP to 330-638-2420 by Monday.

THE POLICE AND FIRE RETIREES OF OHIO, DISTRICT 2 - CHAPTER 10 (Mahoning and Columbiana Counties) will hold their regular meeting at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Brandywine Clubhouse, 3390 Flo-Lor Drive, Youngstown. All retirees and DROP participants of the Ohio Police and Fire Disability and Pension Fund living in Mahoning and Columbiana Counties, along with their spouses or survivors, are welcome. THE OHIO PUBLIC EMPLOYEE RETIREES INC. of the 11th district will hold the district's annual meeting May 19 at DiLucia's Banquet Center, 2610 Elm Road, Warren. Registration will begin at 11 a.m., with lunch at noon. Guest speaker will be Mike Mussell of OPERS and former state Sen. Harry Meshel.

This meeting is open to all Ohio public employees retired or working. All nine chapters in District 11 will be represented. There will be goodie bags, door prizes, and the grand door prize of a P. Buckley Moss original painting.

The week of May 10 is designated as National Nursing Home Week.

With a theme of "Over the Rainbow," Shepherd of the Valley-Howland is celebrating with a week of colorful activities with its residents.

Shepherd of the Valley-Niles is participating with the theme of "Let's Go Cruisin' on the SOV Cruise Ship."

The TRUMBULL COUNTY NUTRITION PROGRAM FOR THE ELDERLY is provided by the Trumbull County Office of Elderly Affairs and operates nutrition sites at 10 locations throughout Trumbull County. These sites provide a meal and the opportunity for socialization. There is a $1.25 charge for each meal.

Any senior citizen 60 and older and spouses of those 60 and older are welcome for lunch at any of the following sites:

THE KINSMAN SENIOR CITIZEN NUTRITION SITE is open every Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday to seniors 60 or older or those whose spouse is 60 or older. Meals are served about noon at the Kinsman Fire Hall. Cost is $1.25 per meal, and the doors open at 10 a.m.

Cards and bingo are played every day, and singing is on Wednesdays.

FOWLER-VIENNA SENIOR CITIZENS meet every Thursday at the Fowler Community Center.

The group meets from 9:30 a.m. or later to play cards and games, celebrate birthdays and anniversaries and for a 50/50 raffle and meals. Special meals are eaten on the fourth Thursday of the month. Cost is $3 each.

All those 55 and older are welcome. Annual dues are $12.

McDONALD SENIOR CITIZENS

Meetings are held 11 a.m. every other Wednesday at McDonald United Methodist Church. Those attending should bring their own lunch.
