Rotary plans chocolate festival, wine tasting

Warren Rotary Club and Foundation will present the fifth annual Chocolate Festival and Wine Taste 5 to 8 p.m. Oct. 15 at St. Demetrious Community Center on Atlantic Street in Warren.

Proceeds will go to the Rotary Foundation's pledge to the Trumbull County Veterans Memorial in downtown Warren.

Local vendors showcase some of their gourmet treats featuring cakes, cookies, ice cream and more. Also several area wineries will offer tastes of their Ohio wines. Entertainment will be provided by Take II and a Chinese auction and 50/50 raffle are planned.

Tickets are $10 and can be purchased at the door, from any Warren Rotary member or through Mike Bollas at 330-373-0228 or Cheryl Lewis at 330-219-1246.

Howland grad eyes law school

Gregory A. Murray, son of Richard and Becky Murray of Howland and 2005 valedictorian of Howland High School, recently graduated summa cum laude from the University of Pittsburgh in Pittsburgh. Murray was an enrollee in the University's Honors College and achieved the Dean's List every semester of his studies.

He earned dual degrees in a joint political science and philosophy program as well as religious studies. He has been active in The Mr. Roboto Project, a cooperatively-organized and volunteer-run venue and art gallery, since 2005.

Murray has recently accepted a position at Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic in Pittsburgh and plans to pursue a law degree in the fall of 2010.

Bonham alum wanted for photo

Jim Williamson of Niles, a former Bonham alumnus, is organizing a photo shoot at the school. All current and past students of the school, as well as faculty and administrators and other school employees, are welcome to be a part of the photo.

The photo is scheduled to take place at 1:30 p.m. Nov. 28.

McKinley Hall to induct alums

The Niles McKinley Alumni Association has named six alumni into the 2009 Distinguished Alumni Hall of Fame.

The 2009 inductees are: David Freel, David Pappada, Marcus McEvoy (posthumous), Guy Simeone, OliveAnn Slotta and Lou West.

The 12th annual Hall of Fame Recognition dinner and social will begin at 5 p.m. Nov. 1 at Ciminero's Banquet Center. This class of inductees also will be honored during football pre-game activities on Oct. 30 at Bo Rein Memorial Stadium in Niles.

Tickets for the dinner are $25 and can be purchased at the Niles Board of Education Office or by calling 330-652-0269. Reservation deadline is Oct. 23.
