Students at Hubbard High School will have representation at Board of Education meetings for the school district.
Christina DeSantis was chosen as Hubbard High School's first student representative by a committee that interviewed all interested candidates.
High school principal Ron Garrett approached her last year when she was still a junior about applying for the position on the board. Interested students were asked to submit resumes and write a letter explaining why they would be good for the position. Committee members interviewed the applicants before deciding on DeSantis.

Christina DeSantis, 17, a senior at Hubbard High School, was selected as a student representative to the Hubbard Board of Education. She will represent students at the board’s meetings to keep members informed of student activities and concerns relating to the school district.
''I wanted to do it because I felt I could relay messages from the students,'' DeSantis said.
''So many students don't attend Board of Education meetings, and they feel they have no say in what goes on,'' she said.
It is hard for the board to have ideas that are in the best interest of the students, and it is hard for the students to understand some of the board's decisions, DeSantis said.
As a liaison between the two, DeSantis feels she can help the two entities to understand each other, she said.
DeSantis, 17, is a senior at Hubbard High School, where she is a member of the varsity cheerleading squad and maintains memberships in the Spanish Club, Ecology Club and the American Sign Language Club.
She has taken dance lessons for 12 years and was a participant in the Miss Teen Akron pageant last year. DeSantis also has been nominated as a Rotary Club Student of the Month and works part time at Belleria Pizza.
Her future plans are to attend Youngstown State University where she intends to pursue physical therapy and exercise sciences.
She is the daughter of Gary and Angela DeSantis and has three older brothers.
The Hubbard Board of Education meets at 7 p.m. the fourth Monday of each month in the Hubbard Board Room, 150 Hall Ave., within the Reed Middle School.
