A representative from the office of Ohio Attorney General Richard Cordray will speak next month at the Howland Senior SCOPE Center, 8273 High St.
Cordray's representative will visit the area Sept. 10 to speak about the latest scams targeting consumers and how people can protect themselves.
Scams tend to increase during tough economic times, according to Cordray in a press release from the Attorney General's office. The program is geared to help the Howland community protect itself from fraud. Cordray's representative also will answer questions about consumer rights during the program.
The presentation will be held from 11 a.m. to noon. To register or for more information, contact Kathy Seifert at 330-609-7806.
The office of the Attorney General also provides consumer and business education, as well as a complaint resolution process to resolve disputes between consumers and businesses. Last year, the office received more than 25,000 consumer complaints and returned $3.7 million to consumers who had filed complaints, the press release said.
For information on consumer rights or to report consumer fraud, contact the Attorney General's office at 800-282-0515 or at www.ohio-attorneygeneral.gov.
