The Niles Times
Through the month of August, the staff at Shepherd of the Valley is working with the Youngstown-Warren Air Reserve Station to collect and send items to "Support our Troops."
The groups ask that as people do their summer shopping, they pick up an extra pair of flip flops, some razors, a couple of Slim Jims, a squirt gun and other non-perishable items to be sent to those soldiers who are serving overseas.
Collection boxes are located at the Niles Shepherd of the Valley, 1500 McKinley Ave., as well as other facilities that include: 7148 West Blvd, in Boardman; 4100 North River Road, Howland; 301 W. Western Reserve Road in Poland; and the corporate offices at 5525 Silica Road, Austintown.
Items such as soap, foot powder and other non-aerosol hygiene products, as well as individually sized snacks, breakfast foods, and other food items are acceptable. Items not permitted include firearms, pork and pork by-product foods, aerosol items, liquid hand sanitizer, alcohol, flammable items, and Silly String.
For a list of suggested items and those not allowed, contact Shepherd of the Valley at 330-544-0771, or go to www.ShepherdOfTheValley.com and click on News and Events/Community Events and go to Support Our Troops.
