Trumbull County 4-H is preparing for its annual summer camp to be held July 26 to Aug. 1.
4-H camps are planned and coordinated by older 4-H teen leaders called 4-H camp counselors. Camp counselors serve as cabin and group leaders during the week and are responsible for 10 to 12 campers for the week. Counselors also help the camp director plan and conduct the camp program. Adult staff includes a camp director, an assistant camp director, two adult chaperones, a camp nurse, and permanent camp staff.
This year's Trumbull 4-H camp theme is "Whitewood Goes Hollywood." Counselors have been busy planning fun theme-based activities, such as scavenger hunts, Hollywood Charades, counselor dress-up, a stilt-walker and clown, campfire and more.
The camp is open to any young person between the ages 9 and 14 years old. Campers do not need belong to 4-H or be residents of Trumbull County.
The camp provides an outdoor classroom where young people have a chance to learn skills in outdoor living, recreation, leadership development and decision-making.
Programs at camp include educational and recreational activities like fishing, canoeing, hiking, crafts, conservation, archery, riflery, and swimming.
Camp is held at Camp Whitewood, located in Windsor in Ashtabula County. Cost is $225, which includes three meals a day and a snack prepared in accordance with sound nutritional guidelines, lodging in cabins with bunk beds, restrooms with flush toilets and showers nearby, and activities and crafts. Registration applications can be obtained from the OSU Extension Office, 520 W. Main St. Suite 1, Cortland, by calling 330-638-6783 or online at www.trumbull.osu.edu/4H/camp.
