Steve Carlomango needed more room for his jewelry store and wanted more access.
His move to the Churchill Commons Plaza in Liberty is the best of both worlds.
Carlomango has a larger building for his business but is also on Belmont Avenue, which has seen increased traffic of late thanks to the state Route 711 project and is getting ready for even more with the anticipated opening of a new Wal Mart store this summer.
Three major highways - Interstate 80 and state Routes 11 and 82 - also intersect with Belmont Avenue.
''Belmont Avenue is going to be the next (U.S.) 224,'' Carlomango said. ''It's cooking over here. All the freeways come through Liberty.''
Carlomango, also the owner of American Appraisal Services, has been in business with World of Gold for about 13 months but decided about six or seven months ago that he needed more room than his former location in Hubbard provided. He said he needed a larger store to compete with chain stores and the local malls.
Carlomango called World of Gold a ''full service jewelry store'' that has one of the few Master Goldsmiths in the area. He said a Master Goldsmith is well schooled in his trade, having undergone four years of education and an apprenticeship, which makes him suited for creating pieces or repairing them.
World of Gold also is a gold redemption store, buying gold at the highest guaranteed price on the world market, Carlomango said.
Carlomango said that when he decided he needed to move, he looked at Liberty first because he is a Liberty native, his children were raised there and also because he wanted to take advantage of the high traffic on Belmont Avenue.
When the location in Churchill Commons opened up, Carlomango said he was instantly interested.
