LIBERTY Freshman right-handed hitter Jared Wiesen stands 5 feet, 4 inches and weighs 120 pounds, but he used every inch and pound to belt a walk-off home run over the left field wall at Liberty High School to beat Campbell, 2-0, on April 9.
Nate Fader threw 10 strikeouts and earned the complete-game victory for the Leopards (1-1).
Fasdine threw 12 strikeouts, but took the loss for Campbell (0-1).
n HUBBARD 8, LIBERTY 3: HUBBARD Hubbard broke free for five runs in the fifth inning and held Liberty scoreless until the seventh inning to improve to 2-0 in the All-American Conference, White Division on April 17.
Dan Helsel struck out three and walked eight, picking up the victory for the Eagles. Matt Britton took the loss for Liberty (2-5, 0-2) striking out one and surrendering no walks.
Tim Schiraldi registered three hits while knocking in three runs to lead the Eagles. Matt Shelton and Mike star both went deep in the victory.
n LAKEVIEW 9, LIBERTY 4: LIBERTY Mike Pasternak and Dave Hunter led a powerful Lakeview offense in an All-American Conference victory over Liberty on April 16.
Hunter hit a two-run double in the fifth inning when the Bulldogs turned a 3-3 tie into a 8-3 Lakeview lead. Hunter had two doubles on the day. Pasternak added three singles and three RBIs.
Liberty outhit the Bulldogs, 16-12. Leading the Leopards was Mark Stanovcak, Jared Wiesen and Joe Tamarkin who all had three hits. Wiesen also had a double and two RBIs.
n LIBERTY 3, BEAVER LOCAL 2: LISBON The Leopards strung together four consecutive hits in the second inning, scoring all the runs they would need to defeat Beaver Local on April 13.
Driving in the runs were Jared Wiesen with a double, and two RBI singles by Joe Tamarkin and Matt Britton. Wiesen finished the day with two hits.
Mark Stanovchak struck out eight batters en route to the victory. Liberty is now 2-3 on the season.
Softball
n HUBBARD 3, LIBERTY 0: HUBBARD The Eagles only needed one inning to score three runs, leading them to an All-American Conference, White Division, victory over the Leopards on April 17.
In the fourth inning, Megan Schultz led off with a double, which was followed by back-to-back singles from Devon Zelonish and Brianna Kelly. An error by the Leopards aided the three-run rally.
Kelly was the winning pitcher as she struck out nine, walked two and gave up two walks. Hubbard improves to 4-2.
Ali House took the loss for Liberty (3-2). She struck out four in the effort.
n LIBERTY 5, NEWTON FALLS 2: NEWTON FALLS The Leopards snapped a 1-1 tie with four runs in the top of the sixth inning. Liberty took advantage of eight walks and five errors by the Tigers on April 16.
Ali House pitched a four-hitter for Liberty, and Newton Falls' Breanna Ginter had three of them. She also drove in both of the Tigers' runs.
n LIBERTY 6, BEAVER LOCAL 2: LISBON Breana Comer hit her first career home run in Liberty's All-American Conference victory over Beaver Local on April 13.
Comer's solo shot to left-center field came in the fifth inning, when the Leopards (2-1) scored twice to take a 5-2 lead. Alison House struck out three in a complete-game victory and helped her own cause by doubling and driving in two runs. Elysam Reib contributed two hits, including a triple.
