Trumbull County Educational Service Center held its Student Art Show Awards Ceremony April 1 at the Eastwood Mall Art Gallery.
The event showcased more than 120 works of art created by more than 100 student artists in grades 9 through 12 from local high schools. The student artwork on display included photography, sculpture, ceramics, prints, drawings and paintings. Many of the works will be sold in a silent auction throughout the duration of the show.
Desiree Gallite of Liberty High School was awarded an honorable mention, and Quincy Harris, also from Liberty High School, took part in the featured poetry reading at the event.
The Sierra Cadena ensemble from Liberty High School provided musical entertainment throughout the evening. Individuals in the ensemble were Meagan Koleck, Jacob Chevlen, Talia Sheakoski, Stephen Callow and teacher advisor John Sandru.
Sara Sylvester from McDonald High School won the Best of Show award. She was selected by a jury of professional artists to receive a $500 scholarship to Youngstown State University and a gift certificate for art supplies totaling $150.
In addition, three students were selected by the jurors to receive the Judge's Awards of Excellence, which were $75 gift certificates for art supplies. Students receiving Judge's Awards were: Julianne Pasini, Howland; Justin Bartholomew, Newton Falls and Leah Mighell, Niles McKinley.
Jacqueline Mikusevich from Niles McKinley, was awarded the People's Choice award, which was selected by the individuals attending the evening event. The award was a $75 gift certificate for art supplies.
In addition to Desiree's award, other area students receiving honorable mentions were: Kyle McIntosh, Bristol; Emily Slattery, Brookfield; Franny Hall, Southington Chalker; Angell Lipps and Jessica Starr, Champion; Dominic Santisi, Girard; Molly Bevan, Howland; Russell Johnson II, Hubbard; Alexandria Raeburn, JFK High School; Mickie Lester, LaBrae High School; Rebecca List, Lakeview High School; Taylor King and Brianna Simpson, Lordstown; Elizabeth Engstrom, Maplewood; Desiree Baldine, Mathews; Nik Fedoruk and Sara Sylvester, McDonald; Brittany Mazon, Newton Falls; Elizabeth Beltz, Erin Clay, Michael Livi II and Brooke Nicolaou, Niles McKinley.
In addition to Quincy's presentation, additional poetry readers were: Kristin Yauger, Champion; Amy Seagraves, Howland; Anna Chinchic, Lakeview; and Andy Malys, Maplewood.
