LORDSTOWN — Local contract bargaining at the General Motors Corp. Lordstown Complex is expected to resume today or Friday after a week’s break, a union leader said Thursday.
The hiatus wasn’t of any importance, said Jim Graham, president of United Auto Workers Local 1112 that represents 2,400 workers at the Lordstown assembly plant. He said negotiators used the time to meet by department to look over information.
‘‘We’re doing well. We’ll get it done,’’ Graham said.
Today also is the deadline for union members at the complex to sign up for early retirement and buyout packages GM has offered. Graham said the union won’t know the total until Friday.
The attrition plans pays eligible production workers $45,000 to retire, while skilled trades employees can get $62,500.
Workers without enough service to retire can get buyouts of as much as $140,000, which can be rolled directly into their GM 401(k) or personal Individual Retirement Account to save on taxes.

Do you think the economy and state of US manufacturing is a wakeup call to the union? If should be.
