Jane Trupe Alderman 1918-2008

CAPITOL HEIGHTS, Md. — Jane Trupe Alderman, 90, of Capitol Heights, died Wednesday, May 14, 2008.

She was born Jan. 7, 1918, in Parkesburg, Pa., the daughter of the late Charles H. Trupe and the late Mary Newswanger Trupe.

Jane was a 1936 graduate of Vienna High School and had resided in Capital Heights for the past 60 years.

Mrs. Alderman was employed by National Geographic in Washington, D.C., for 20 years where she had worked as a book binder. Jane was a member of First Church of Christ, Scientist and enjoyed spending her retired years working in her garden and attending to her yard and flowers. She was an avid reader and loved to send her family clippings of the world’s current events. Jane also loved to crochet and make gifts for her family and friends.

Mrs. Alderman may best be remembered as a very kind and generous woman. She donated regularly to the various veterans organizations, the American Indians, Salvation Army, food banks for the needy in her area and for organizations against animal cruelty.

Jane was preceded in death by her husband, Garland L. Alderman Sr., whom she married on April 17, 1938.

She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Catherine Alderman of Dale City, Va.; two grandsons, Aaron and Derek Alderman; and one great-grandson, Hobbie Alderman Xavir. Also surviving is her sister, Betty Hefner of Cortland.

Mrs. Alderman was preceded in death by her son, Garland Alderman Jr.; one sister, Lillian Michalec; and three brothers, Charles, Paul and John Trupe.

Arrangements are being handled by Shafer-Winans Funeral Chapel where the family will receive friends from 11:30 a.m. until the 1 p.m. service Saturday.

Interment will be at the Vienna Township Cemetery.
