Joseph F. Marino 1940-2008

AUSTINTOWN — Joseph F. Marino, 68, of Austintown, formerly of Niles, died at 7:40 p.m. Monday, May 19, 2008, at Hospice of the Valley Hospice House in North Lima after a courageous two-year battle with cancer.

He was born March 4, 1940, in Niles, the son of Dominic and Mary Ann Fonce Marino.

Joseph was a 1958 graduate of Niles McKinley High School, attended Youngstown State University, and was employed as an auto body and paint sales representative at Sherwin-Williams in Cleveland for 25 years, retiring in 2003.

He was a member of Bailey Road Baptist Church in North Jackson, Cortland Moose, Warren ITAM 29, Legends of Leather, a volunteer firefighter in Girard for six years, and a member of the Flying Group at The National War Planes Museum in Genefro Field, N.Y.

He enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren, especially watching his grandson play sports and his granddaughter dance. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, and winemaking.

He was an avid history and World War II aircraft buff, and was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in Korea for 13 months. He was a member of the Air Force Reserves for four years.

He will be deeply missed by a daughter, Christine Martini and her husband, Vincent, of Austintown; a son, Dominic Marino of Mantua; five brothers, James Leech and his wife, Barbara, of Warren, Frank J. Marino of Howland, Anthony C. Marino and his wife, Joyce, of Mineral Ridge, Donald Marino and his wife, Carolyn, of Bristolville, Robert Marino Sr. and his wife, Sherry, of Niles; two grandchildren, whom he adored, Jennifer Gibson and Christopher ‘‘C.J.’’ Martini; and several nieces and nephews, especially Denise, Lisa and Anthony.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Joseph Rossi and Sons Funeral Home in Niles, and from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Bailey Road Baptist Church, 2121 N. Bailey Road, North Jackson 44451. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, with the Rev. Stanley Mink officiating, at the church. Burial will be at Niles City Cemetery, where Joseph will be honored for his military services by the Trumbull County American Legion Honor Guard.
