Ohio man killed at SC motorcycle rally

POSTED: May 12, 2008

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (AP) — A northeast Ohio man has died at Myrtle Beach’s Harley-Davidson spring motorcycle rally.

Horry County deputy coroner Tamara Willard says 45-year-old Angelo Gonzalez of Boardman, Ohio, died and a woman was injured Saturday night when their motorcycle hit a truck making a left turn on a busy South Carolina highway.

The 10-day rally typically draws about 200,000 people to the 60-mile stretch of beaches. Two visitors died in crashes this weekend. Three people died in accidents last year.

The Tribune has done a disservice to these families in failing to report that the accident was caused by the vehicle driver, not the motorcyclists. The driver of the truck that turned in front of the motorcycle was charged with two felony DUI charges and failure to yield the right of way. Angelo and Susan were in no way responsible for this horrible incident. My condolences go to the families of this very kind and gentle man and his friend.

I live near Myrtle Beach. The whole story is the man driving the pick up truck was drunk and turned and hit the bike. The driver of the truck was charged. It was of no fault to the bike driver.

It's not the machines, it's the drivers. You know they had to have been drinking, or on something else. Just like guns, they don't kill, it is the person pulling the trigger that kills.

When will people learn to stay off of these 2-wheeled killing machines?
