County jobless rates improve

Jobless rates in Trumbull and Mahoning counties improved in February over January, while Youngstown again surrendered its title as the state’s worst city to find work.

Trumbull County saw its jobless rate fall to 7 percent from7.2 percent the previous month, according to numbers released Tuesday by the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services. Both numbers are preliminary and subject to being revised.

Mahoning County posted a 6.7 percent preliminary jobless rate versus 7.3 percent a month ago. Youngstown’s rate fell to 7.6 from 8.3 percent in the same period. Cleveland at 8 percent and Toledo at 7.7 percent both had worse unemployment marks.

Among neighboring counties, Ashtabula County had a 7.7 percent jobless rate, Columbiana had a 6.6 percent rate, Geauga had a 5.8 percent rate and Portage had a 6.1 percent rate.
