Think of it like this twizz, and you can look it up. By law (which probably doesn't make a difference to Obama) the very first thing the government must pay is the interest on the debt, that is before they pay anything else. If you pay the interest you cannot default. The interest is 18 billion per month, the government will collect around 275 billion per month. The default and bill paying argument is a lie and has been exposed by even the left wing media. You are being had, through and through.

PS - Are you Ihateblues?

Twizz, I think you misunderstand. You don't have to buy fuel and maintenance for hardware that is not used. We also know that the less utilities you use the less you have to pay for them.

But that is besides the point. Obama wants to increase spending. That is what raising the debt ceiling means, you spend more. Not for things you already put in the works, that money was already accounted for and allocated. That is how this works. You can't take Obama at his word. When he says we will default he doesn't mean that we will default because the money spent last year is not enough to cover this years bills. He means unless he can spend more money he won't pay the bills

Brasco, "state" is a country controlled or run by a certain government. "state" didn't get invented when we started naming ours. He wasn't talking about Ohio!

"Actually there are savings in not operating military planes and less use of utilities." <----Postaldog3

^Actually the WORST comment on the Tribune to date! Less use of utilities?? Are you SERIOUS?? So who's waving the magic wand and paying for these buildings' utilites? Do your utility bill stop coming in your mail when you quit paying it? If so, let me know what parallel universe address you reside at because I would LOVE to see what it's like to visit the other side of reality.

Brasco, you brainless little girl. Once you learn to read, go back to the article and you might learn that it was California that they were referencing you moron, not Ohio.

Twizzle:

We agree with you except that it is the ENTIRE DC establishment that voted for this in hopes that us rubes in the hinterland wouldn't be smart enough to catch on.

All 536 of those beltway bums need to be replaced at the next election opportunity.

None of them respect we, the people.

"A state in disarray controlled by dimocrats, and a federal government held hostage by dimocrats. Act surprised. "

The power of the purse is held by Democrats? Interesting. That's what's being held hostage, our budget.

Do you even live in this dimension?

Federal workers can get unemployment. I wonder if they take that into account when they get their back pay when the politicians get their crap together and reopen government.
