Compmanretired: I am a federal employee! 2014 will be the FIRST pay raise since 2010!!! I don't know where you found this 1.7% from but it SURE wasn't for federal employees. Now there was an increase for 1.7% for the social security receipients and ssi people. I think you have your figures confused.

@phootaman: cost of living for 2013 for federal employees was 1.7%. That is a step increase in salary. Obama signed into law a 1% salary increase foe 2014 - not counting any potential COLA.

Liberalburpdumb did you hear the republican proposal yesterday? They offered debt talks while keeping the government shut down. What kind of proposal is THAT?? I'm glad Obama refused! Obviously he (potus) cares about getting people back into work with pay. Republicans WANT the shutdown!

stop playing the blame game. All of government is at fault here! America needs to open their eyes cut the pork and all foreign aid and corporate tax breaks now and get our country back together. Starting with our elected government wages and health care they are not above us people they were elected to work for us... You want to be an American citizen then do it the right way apply for it. You want to fly foreign flags then go live in that country and fly it. I have watch Our American rights slowly taken away and now I feel I am the one who has no rights. Sick of it all. Best bet would be to fire all of Washington and vote in true American people that will not put up with all this Bull. America is suppose to be the land of the free so stop trying to take all of our rights away.

I think every member of congress that belongs to the GOP or the Tea Party should be removed from office, for not doing their job. They have not passed one piece of legislation that has become law. The only issues they know is abortion, contraception, and Obamacare. Now they are holding the American economy hostage trying to extort changes to Obamacare. Their new plan is to piece meal legislation to ease the shutdown, and give a short term extension to our debit. That's like saying one thing now and 3 months later review what has changed and then decide to give you more or not. That's pure extortion tactics, when someone has something damaging and you pay them a price and then 3 months later they want something else. Playing extortion games is not good for our economy or this country period. This will probably be removed as usual, but at least I know it affected someone fearing the truth about what is going on.

CommonSense, why are you blaming the democrats for this shutdown. Poll after poll as shown that the GOP is the party responsible. In fact it has been on TV many times, that Boehner is at fault. He has a senate bill passed and refuses to bring it up for a vote with the congress. It has been on the web and on the news networks that at least 17 GOP congress members would vote for it. But Boehner refuses to even acknowledge the senate version sent to him. You should watch more than Fox news to be up to date on this issue. As for those democrats that voted with the GOP as you stated, there are quite a few democrats that are really republicans that ran for office under the disguise as democrats. Example: in Pa. you can run as a democrat and as a republican at the same time. Pa. is not the only state that allows that either. Even if elected as democrat, they still have the GOP mentality. Do your self a favor and watch more than just Fox news, then you will be better informed.

Questions for WP:

Why did Pelosi (D) “grandstand” at the illegal immigration rally while saying that she won't go to the World War II veterans memorial, because she didn’t want to “grandstand”?

Why is federal property being opened up to many non-citizens of the United States, which proceeded to waved the Mexican flag, while American citizens are being shut out of their parks?

Why did only 22 Democrats out of 197 vote to restore funding for the national parks on October 1st, and why did only 33 Democrats out of 197 vote to restore funding for all veterans?

How can Americans trust the Democrats about what is going on in Washington, when they blatantly misrepresent the effects of the shutdown, and are so blatantly hypocritical about who is hurt by it?

WP If we said Obama was a black sheep would that be racist? If so, is your statement racist? How about if we called the prez Oboner would that be demeaning? If so, are you being demeaning? Maybe spending money we don't have or redistributing wealth is our biggest problems.

WP rears her her racist ignorance once again. Harry Reid and his obammy party of "no" declined to vote, which shut down the government. They are attempting to inflict as much pain as possible on the citizens of the US. Two days ago they allowed the Mexican flag to fly at an illegal immigration amnesty rally on the mall while aging vets are turned away. Now they cut funds to fallen Heros' families. The ruling party are the lowest form of scum bag life on the planet.

"The Tea Party believers continue to not believe segregation and poverty are the major reason our country is in such bad shape."

You should have been a history teacher WP. I didn't know George Wallace, Bull Conner, LBJ, and all Demoncratic Mayors were members of the Tea Party. However, no need to worry, the gutless Karl Rove Repubs will make sure they end this once great Republic today when they meet with your hero!!

Those Tea Party Republicans who are inflicting such pain on our veterans and seniors will be crucified in 2014 at the ballot box. They are not acting for the majority of the American people at all, but rather their misdirected self interests. Boner is not a leader, but a white sheeple in Tea Party clothing. The Tea Party believers continue to not believe segregation and poverty are the major reason our country is in such bad shape.

Projected inflation increase of 1.5% through the end if August. Source Bankrate. Rate also determines step increases for government employees.

All those bagger-seniors were about to turn in their SS cards and renounce their Medicare eligibility anyway, right, as a demonstration of their disgust with and rejection of government intrusion in their lives?

I mean, come on!

Show all of us the depth of your commitment to your anti-government ethos, and the purity of your objections to all things public.

Do it!

Or shut up!
