Gino- You are correct. Nurses are not really in a shortage anymore. The only nursing jobs that you see consistently advertised are in home healthcare and in nursing homes. Both have high turnover rates, especially nursing homes, because they consistently understaff.

@Daniel. Apparently you are not a nurse. Nursing jobs are getting hard to come by, except in nursing homes. Especially full time, with benefits, and for new nurses with no experience.

Let me guess Warrenproud. You are a super model? A professional athelete? You have a personal fitness trainer? You seem to complain a LOT about people being judged by what they LOOK like, but then you show you are a hypocrit by doing the same darn thing. Let me guess, it is only WRONG in your opinion, if you judge by color, not weight or height? It may not be racism, but,you just proved you are no better than a racist by commenting about what a person LOOKS like.

I wonder why the hospital corp. and the RN's do not contact a mediator to solve these problems without a strike. I hear Confidential Consultants, owned by Ed Ryan is starting up his mediation practice again in this area. Let's all hope he will do more than just divorce mediation. We need someone like him badly in this area.

According to the logic of certain Delphi Salaried Retirees these nurses are just a bunch of union thugs walking around trying to force the honest management people into a wage that is higher than their skill set calls for. They will contact the management at Northside and advise them to send the nurse's jobs to China.

To garner safe nursing practices, you need more staff, and of course, they need to be competent staff. Period. Higher wages for nurses without more staff will never make the healthcare environment safe.

Northside had better wake up. Do they think they can find 400 scab nurses? Don't think so. But those same nurses can go anywhere with the shortage and high demand of Nurses. What the heck are they thinking? Not to mention they are clearly saying that they do not care whatsoever for the patients.

For once I have to agree with WarrenP, God forgive me, this picket looks more like a "porker" parade, these representatives of the health care industry are an embarrassment to the hospital as well as themselves.

ONA is using the same playbook as in 2001 when they went on strike with Forum. We all saw how that worked out with Forum driven out of business due to Northsides attitudes and enventually saved by CHS. As CHS is expanding its regional net (Akron General and Sharon Regional) ONA may find there is only one "Youngstown Knife and Gun Club" needed within a mile of inner city Youngstown. Nurses have transferable skills and may find more loyality to having a paying job rather than to union leaders "Hail Mary" pass of a strike that may dissolve Northside.

Some of those nurses in the picture look like they could stand to lose a few pounds. A strike and picket walking duty may do them some good.

" The Ohio Nurses Association at Northside is the only bargaining unit within ValleyCare that has not reached agreement "

I wonder if they will like being unemployed?
