The reason the Howland JV team got beat, was they was playing against most of Harding's SV second string this morning. The second string didn't get to play last night, so they played against Howlands JV team.

It is wonderful Harding won. The kids in the band did a great job too.

Does this article belong on the sports page? People are still pushing the football mentality in the media. That would be fine if you would give equal time to the academic achievements of the school. Maybe the kids would "get it" that academics are just as important and the community honors and respects those achievements as well. A statue is being placed in honor of Warfield, as it should. How about the man who went on to get his Ph.D. and became an astronaut with NASA. Does he get one? Do the other greats from Harding who have served as honorable roll models for the Warren Community get statues around town?

The "upset" was on track until midway through the 3rd, when a false-start forced Howland, 4th and 1 at the Harding 40, to re-think trying for the 1st down. The punt went to the 10, but Harding drove 90+ yds. and scored, and the tide had turned.

The long kick-off return at the end tightened the score, but Harding owned the 2nd half.

The Tigers have improved even since last week; still, better than 5-5 season for Howland would be wildly successful.

Frankly, neither team looked all that great last night. It looks like it's going to be a long season for both.
