People will shop for the best value

August 25, 2013

DEAR EDITOR: Although the activity seems to have stopped, I commend Mr. Al Novak for doing what he believes is correct by picketing the “new” store in our area....

mrright - it takes a lot of mythos and faith in free markets to believe what you said.

There has never been a free market by any acceptable definition, so asking workers to sit back and watch their jobs go overseas obediently to honor a myth is a pretty sick joke. But you honestly believe in that stuff, don't you?

Secondly, discussions of "the best value" certainly should include viablity of local job markets, shouldn't they? It doesn't make sense to save 2% on foreign-made goods if you lose your manufacturing job, local taxes go up, the nation goes into a recession, and your investments shrivel up.

Free market free schmarket. Unless by "market forces", you mean the global police backed by the biggest military force known to homo sapiens, but that aint free in any way, shape, or form.

Novak should be ashamed and embarrassed. He is absolutely entitled to his own opinion, and his own actions, however he is also an elected official, elected to represent ALL of the people in his area. To take his personal opinion and carry out this wrong, childish, malicious behavior towards a new business providing jobs and creating commerce in his city is a disgrace - this is a failure to fill the expected role of representing ALL of his constituents. If he were a good man, he would take the higher road of keeping his personal opinion out of the headlines and instead consider what is good for ALL and not just the selfish few, diehard union grunts, that remain stuck in the failed ways of the past.

Bottom Dollar has every right to be here and people have every right to shop there if they wish. If you don't like them, don't shop there.

Why are many companies going to part time workers and eliminating many full time employees? Check out OBAMA CARE and what it will cost...then check it again to see what OBAMA CARE will cost you if you choose to carry no insurance or be under insured!

Regardless of union versus nonunion, none of these companies in the service industry have any interest in having a staff of people who work forty hours a week.

That means overtime and other benefits.

Here is how these places operate. They have a few salaried employees who, once you factor in the hours they work versus what they make, they usually end up regretting the promotion. And then there is the staff, all clamoring for hours but never, ever hitting that forty hour mark.... When the hourly people end up hitting forty hours, those salaried managers I charge are usually punished.

I realize you people may be decades from ever having these kids of jobs, but ask your kids or nieces your grand kids.... This is the game they live with.

Daniel/Repub now you two aren't exactly telling the truth now are you. Who was told well in advance that the offered contract was the best that could be offered. And who were told that if a positive reply wasn't reached by a certain date the company would be shut down? And WHO chose NOT TO GO BACK TO WORK, NOW YOU TWO CRY BECAUSE THE UNION WORKERS ARE NOW OUT OF A JOB, WELL BOYS THEY GOT WHAT THEY WANTED, UNEMPLOYED!

Daniel, They deserve to be gone & the sooner the better. They are greedy, union busting ,compassionless, life destroying, unpatriotic, capitalistic pigs.

They deserve exactly what they caused their former employees.

A good example of Union vs non Union;

Anyone try any of those Hostess snacks since its been back? Freaking Gross and not fit for human consumption. That is the price you get for union busting. Low of the lowest quality. I give them 2 years max and they will be gone.

NOT true mrright - because our country ALLOWS OUR money to go overseas, give tax abatements to foreign companies, hire 2 part time employees instead of 1 full time employee with benefits, we are drowning......

In the private sector- market forces determine the success of business, not some under paid huckster protesting in front of a legitimate business.

Foreign owned has absolutely nothing to do with anything, this is about the self-serving union leadership, its never about the common man.
