Soccer creates unnatural rivalry

Badger, Harding boys face off in season opener

August 18, 2013

VERNON — Warren G. Harding and Badger athletic teams rarely square off against each other, but in terms of boys soccer, the two schools have started one of Trumbull County’s newest rivalrie....

I can't confirm that the Trib runs sports articles that are disproportionately about Lakeview and Howland, but if more Trib subscribers are from Cortland and Howland, that would make sense. I have no subscribtion data, just making an observation. A business must give their customers what they want. If the paid subscribers are disproportionately from Howland and Cortland, it makes sense to run storeis about their local teams. But again, I have no data, just making a possible assumption.

Yes everyone should boycot the Tribune...they can't make enough money just lakeview and Howland. Makes me wonder if $$ has a lot to do with it...I challenge you the Tribune to be fair with reporting the area soccer teams...maybe report by divisions and what each team did last year and the goals that the coaches have for the upcoming....new additions to the team and their history and returning players with some stats...just a thought...

This was a nice article about 2 teams from different backgrounds in Trumbull Co. that play soccer. This is the beauty of this sport that a small rural school can play a large city school and the smaller school can compete and win against larger schools.

Then the Tribune and their obsession with Lakeview and Howland soccer reared it's ugly head and Lakeview was brought into the story as they did not play either Badger or Harding. Until the Tribune fairly reports on other schools soccer teams, soccer will never take hold as it has in Mahoning Co.

The Vindy covers all the schools that play soccer in Mahoning Co. But the Tribune has this obsession with only Lakeview and Howland and that's not fair reporting or fair to the other schools in Trumbull Co that play soccer. Labrae, Niles, Warren JFK, Hubbard and others do very well in soccer. The Tribune is bias toward Howland & Lakeview unfortunately. Good luck to all the schools that play soccer as well.

Harding will never get any better playing teams like Badger, step up the competition with the likes of Howland, Lakeview, Canfield, Mooney, Boardman, and Fitch. The Raiders have more than six times the boys as Badger.

The trib cracks me up with it's reporting. The story is about the Badger / Harding game and developing rivalry. Them at the end, they had to stick in the Lakeview update. The trib fails to see that there are some other good programs with good players that deserve just as much coverage. If you want to write an article about Lakeview, then do it. Keep it out of the main topic.
