Let's spray paint him gold and make him stand there for a week or so where the old statue was before he tried to scrap it.

Grave robbing connotes digging up a grave and robbing it of its contents, i.e., jewelry worn by the deceased or even the deceased themselves (think of the movie Frankenstein). I don't believe that stealing a statue from a cemetery qualifies as grave robbing. Not to minimize the crime, but to higlight the sensationalism and misleading reporting so prevalent in the Trib.

Bear I believe the statue was on a vet's grave. If so, how is this not grave robbing? If you steal a marker on top of a grave you have stolen from the grave. I may not have the facts right. If it was in the cemetary but not on a grave I agree with you.

Ksmith, you got it right. If these lazy dopeheads were put to work everyday while locked up they would think twice before doing dumbarze stuff like this again. $36,000 theft should be 600 days at $60/day of hard labor for the VA or County/State that the crime was committed in.

Don't cut off his hand, put it to work cleaning, repairing, mowing, painting hauling groceries for a vet or for the widow of a vet. Give him a broom to sweep streets and sidewalks when he isn't working for the vet.

Cut his dominant hand off, that should slow him down a bit.

"Grave robber?" Did I miss part of the story or is this sensationalist journalism? The man is accused of stealing a statue from a cemetery, not robbing a grave.
