Many career criminals ARE mentally ill.I don't think that any one would dis-agree with that. What people do not like is INNOCENT due to mental illness. These folks need medicated, rehabed in a locked down facility, and then LOCKED up again because they can now understand their crime.Guilty due to insanity, not innocent due to insanity.

I agree RobinJ. There was not one mention of mental problems. Once could say the guy is nuts, sure. But instead of calling him a jerk a piece of crap, a thug, or whatever. There are those who think we should give him a big hug, tell him he is a mental case and WE, the taxpayers will take care of him. Who else would pay for all of this mental care? Sure not him.

Convicted of rape in 1981? I dont think that qualifies for mental illness. Several more brushes with the law since his release? I dont think that qualifies for mental illness either. This guy is 55 today and in 1981 went to prison for rape at age 23. IF the guy was mentally ill at age 23 I could buy into the mental illness. Looks like a career criminal to me!

They need to lock up that nut case and throw away the keys. Also do not give him any access to matches or gasoline because we all know what the end result could and most likely be. Have a great weekend!!!

I agree with Billdog on our approach of mental health. All of the drug addicted fiends also contribute to the cause. Mental illness comes from a wide array of avenues. This guy needs some serious help and I hope you get's it.

Billdog: You are exactly right. Until this country starts taking mental health issues seriously the public will always be in danger of these tragic incidents. Warehousing the mentally ill in prison does nothing to solve the problem.

Obviously mental health issues at work here. He is out on the streets because of the federal gooberment cutting mental health funds since the 1980's. Give them a pill and put them back out on the streets. Those with mental health problems don't take the meds once back out on the streets and no agency oversee that they are doing what needs to be done to not become a threat to themselves or others until something happens. A person with mental health problems don't do well with regulating their own well-being.

With this mans past records he should not even been out on the streets. He should have dumped the gas on himself and I would have provided the match.
