To those I offended, I apologize, and I especially apologize to the young man and his family if he or they are going through a serious problem of whatever kind.

While I do not condone name calling, I have to agree that the way the comment was phrased seemed to be very negative. Although none of us can hear sarcasm through words it did sound that way. Just my two cents.

Not for a moment do I think "I guess for Stanko it came down to, do you want to work and get paid, or do you want to get paid and not have to work for it" was meant as anything but degrading and belittling. If you truly meant what you said after I called you out then you would have said that in the first place.

Bear, I believe you, but how you phrased about working and getting paid or not working and still getting paid, makes it sound like you were insulting the kid, even if you werent. And you're right, it's really low class for someone to call someone else garbage when it is they who are misinterpretting what you wrote.

And finally, I sincerely hope that this young man is not facing a difficult challenge, such as personal or family illness.

For those of you who wish to read meaning into my posts that do not exist, let me spell it out: If there are circumstances not listed in the article, such as injuries, stress, problems at home, etc, then he probably did the right thing to resign from the football team. However, if he saw a loophole to no longer have to work on the football team but still keep his scholarship--which I don't think is the case, given all the good things I've heard about him--then that's not something I would expect of someone of high character.

I'd close with "read into that what you want," but apparently some of you like to read fiction.

That's why I asked. But thanks for the name-calling, always classy.

You're wrong. They do not get an additional scholarship to replace it, which is why they were anything but kind.Bear you are garbage and definitely DO NOT know the entire story so shut up.

Thanks for the info, cb3. I guess for Stanko it came down to, do you want to work and get paid, or do you want to get paid and not have to work for it? Take that as you wish.

they absolutely will.

which is why their coach isn't too upset...trade in a backup lineman for a new 4-star recruit, everyone is happy.

The NCAA prohibits Penn State from revoking scholarships from any football player who quits the team. However, does Stanko's scholarship count against the total number allowed for the football team? Will the football team be given an additional scholarship to make up for the one given Stanko, which will no longer be used by a member of the football team?
