I believe that price is still too much, I've seen funerals cost a bit less even without a donated casket. Plus if we're living in the spirit of giving then many of the fees you listed could/should have been donated services.

jonathon - about $8,000 per child even with a donated casket is about right. You still have to pay for the vault for the casket to go into, grave opening and closing fees, death certificates (I think they're like $10-$15 for each copy), embalming, probably an outfit for them to wear, flowers, and possibly the autopsy. There is a lot involved when someone dies. About $8,000 even with a donated casket doesn't seem that far out of line to me.

I'm glad they are keeping the account open for use in any future trajedies. There are good people in this area. The article did not list all of the non-monetary gifts and donations given to the families from individuals and churches, I wish they would have, but I do know that my church made a significant donation under the condition of anonymity.

I meant to add that the coffins for the 6 children were DONATED and yet the funeral bill was $47,000, how proud the funeral home must be of their pricing for such a tragedy as this was.
