Alberini’s says goodbye, but owners hint of return

March 24, 2013

NILES — The crowd at Alberini’s on Saturday was reminiscent of a New Year’s Eve rush, only with much more emotion as the restaurant welcomed its patrons for the last time....

Although I do not know Chook. based on these comments he sounds like an upright guy. I'm sure he plans on making good to people who are left holding an active gift card for Alberini's Restaurant.

A new restaurant at the mall is trying to move into Alberini's space. I tested out Firebirds over the weekend and believe they can not replace Alberini's as the local fine dining experience. Never order the fired spinach, it's like crispy spinach soaked in grease.

My wife and I are like the local Zagat surveyors when it comes to grading restaurants. Firebirds is too dark, the food is not great in comparison to the prices, and the hustle of the workers reminds me of NYC. Vernon's still holds first place in my survey...

Always sad to not only see an independent restaurant go, but one with historical significance. Yes. There food wasn't what it once was, but it's leaps and bounds over the chain crap that Niles seems to be in love with. Thanks for the great food over the year.

I remember getting my firsy pizza at Alberini's in the late 50's. When it moved on the hill, we would go there for lunch from Carlisle's. I have never ever found a pizza-burger as good as the ones there. And then there was the time i saw Maureen McGovern singing in the lounge. That was before her hit from the Posiden Adventure. I always visted when i was in the area. I'll miss that. Thank you for so many years of good food and good memories.

Rich the food was made with love and we love the Alberini family. We need you in the community. God Bless and I'll be watching and listening for you from Delaware. My brother will have to let me know anything he hears and I'm sure the the Tribune will be following up on you.

Really loved Alberini. Had our wedding reception there and they always knew you by name when you went there. However, that was years ago. They did change, as well as their food as time went on.

Another sad example of the decaying Trumbull County area.

Sorry to see them close. my wife and I went to Alberinis on our first date,October 16,1971. We tried to get in these last couple of days but were not successful . I am left with an active $40 gift card. Is there any recourse?

PLEASE open a carryout pizza business. I cannot fathom a life without Alberini's meatball and hot pepper pizza.

It's a very tough and non-forgiving business. Especially a place as large as Alberinis. Knowing of the new owners I am sure they have plans and will make use of this property. Best wishes to Chook and family!
