Excuse seniors from sewer tie-ins

March 17, 2013

DEAR EDITOR: Hopefully this letter will help the elderly who are being forced to tie into sewer lines, and I realize there are laws but these laws have been changed over the years....

Maybe we all could gather at the TCBH and take turns shielding each other as we filled the parking lot with BM's. I wonder what the reaction would be to the run off? Wewwwwwwwww!

Well put Ruth. Another solution is to let it go until the property changes hands. These people have been using their septic system for years. If it still works, isn't polluting the county side and they have it emptied when needed, let it go. The politicians and installers will get theirs when the property changes hands.

MOST of the homeowners ARE retired. Trumbull County and the various cities and townships are surviving today only because of the retirees paying taxes.

Excuse seniors from sewer tie-ins? Sorry, but that would be age discrimination.

AMEN! And the author thinks that young people who have not worked all their lives and had the opportunity to SAVE have the bucks to cover their sewer needs AND their senior citizen neighbors???

There's currently an issue with a senior being forced to tie in to a sewer and it has nothing to do with a bad septic. Her septic is working properly. They are making her cough up almost $17,000 because her neighbor ran a private line and because it is "accessible" geographically. They are requiring her to abandon her working septic and fork over money she doesn't have.

I don't agree. You shouldn't have to lose everything you own that late in life. Reverse mortgage gives your property to someone else when you die. TC Commissioners should be able to help these seniors. They have funds set aside for emergencies. Mr Fuda always claims to be for the seniors, so lets see what he does to help them. If taxpayer money is used, it's money the seniors paid already.

A bad septic system makes people sick. You can not excuse anyone from having a properly working system. Tie ins are the real answer to a sewage disposal question forever more. Sorry seniors - NO.
