When my son was in elementary school I wpuld get home from work 10min. before the bus came. That worked out well until one day I was in a minor traffic accident and I got home a little late and missed the bus, I was frantic, but we had a very good driver who noticed I was not there so she kept my son with her on the bus.Everything worked out due to a bus driver that truelly knew how to do a good job and looked out for her students.

Bigbear, a parent would notice the second a child didn't get off bus! Then WAVE the driver down, don't you think? Big mistake Yes by driver, if this was a young child, most parents watch for kids at stop/drop off. Thankfully child is Ok.

I can't believe some are so willing to cast stones at the parents. Maybe they were working and maybe they were frantic, we don't know but we do know this bus driver was negligent.I don't think this should be blown out of proportion but standard operating procedures should be addressed.

What's the big deal? The kid was in as safe.a place as any! No parent was worried about him/her! And, he/she needed to ride the bus to school the next day anyway! The driver probably knew about it, was just in a hurry to get home and let the kid sleep! It was most likely, the best, and safest place he/she has had to sleep in a long time!

Lets say a driver makes 17,00 an hour and are contracted for 4 hrs a day. Thats $68.00 a day they each drive atleast 3 loads of kids twice a day. I'll do a low count bus of 40 each way which I'm sure there more on most loads. That 240 bidies per day divide that into 68.00. That bus driver is making less rhan 30 cents per child per run to insure the safety of that child. Im sure $17.00 an hour is a high number. You probably need 1o or 12 years in to make that. Those who are quick with the tongue need to consider teying the job and get a taste of what really goes on. The money on paper always looks good until you really see what the jobs consist of and start figuring it out. You dont think these people work Hard on their jobs?

Looploop100, cut hours, lsyoff drivers, overload busses, where do you draw the line of free work? We haven't even been told if this was a regular driver or a substitute driver but yet were out to hang them

Once again, where was the parent? Certainly not at the busstop ir they would have been able to ask the bus driver now wouldn't they? Elementary kids should have to have someone waiting at the stop for them like they do in Austintown. I certainly hope those drivers have a union, have you ever followed any school bus? They need security on them so the driver can kerp their mind on those idiots that simehow manage to get drivers licenses Better yet, do away with bussing and make all parents responsuble for getting their kids to school then charge them all with truancy along with the parents for not showing up. It was a mistake, the child was not in any harm or danger. More harm and danger is letting them off without a parent. Anyone could pick them up. Stop blowing this out of proportion. Wonder why the other kids on the bus never told the driver someine was sleeping? I'm sure they didnt get off at the stop alone.

Are schoo bus drivers union? USB, if they are Im sure its a tactic pulled from a secret unspoken union cult! Yes, they use these methods as extortion for more pay! (SARCASM). seems this has happened before, maybe even couple times over years, yes serious. No not punishable by a Lynch mob hanging!!!

What child sleeps as hard as that. This is dangerous and will lead to other problems in life. teach your children to be responsible for themselves. We can't blame someons because of sleeping people. Sleepers should blame themselves.

Anothernilestaxpayer, I hope to God you are kidding. Seriously, comparing this making a mistake on any other job?

If I'm working at McDonald's and forget to put pickles on your hamburger, oops, I made a mistake.

If I am entrusted with the lives of children and I screw up, I SHOULD BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE AND I SHOULD BE DISMISSED IMMEDIATELY.

This happened last year. If this bus driver didn't learn from past mistakes made by a fellow employee, she has NO BUSINESS driving bus in ANY district.

Then every person who makes a mistake while at work should be fired. Ypu couldnt pay me enough money to drive a school bus full of screamimg kids not just in niles but anywhere. Ive followed school busses watching kids hittimg the kid im the seat in front of them, throwing things out windows and mooning the car following the bus. The driver has atleast 60 kids on the bus and has to watch the road in front of them for the drivers who simply refuse to obey the traffic law. Bus drivers are not appreciated at all

Sorry knowitall. It does not work that way. I'll bet if it was your child you would not talk that way. This incident should never ever happen. There are no excuses.

Hmmm, wonder what time the child was reported missing? I would think if your lityle one didnt get off at the bus stop you would be on the phone to the transportation department. Im sure they have radios and can call to drivers to alert them

IT IS STATE LAW THAT THE DRIVER CHECKS THE BUS FROM ONE END TO THE OTHER BEFORE EXITING TH BUS. Driver should be fired.

It could be the driver was sweeping the bus and had picked up personal belongings and did a visual scan. No one said how old the child is nor if they were tiny.

Why wouldn't the driver walk to the back of the bus after parking it? Is that too much to ask?

I don't understand how this could have happened, I thought protocol was the the driver had to "sweep" the bus before leaving for back packs "KIDS SLEEPING" Didn't we have and incident like this not too long ago? Hope the little one is OK
