The article is not complete. Why did the officers do a traffic stop? And why on eath did the driver get out shooting? There is more to the story and all facts need to be gotten right before they are printed as an article. This does not say much, except that the officers were wounded and the driver shot dead. Where are the real details? Trib writers need to go back to journalism class to be able to write for a paper.

Howlands an Excellent Police Dept by the way! As are most in Trumbull county. They can only do so much with so few. A few bad ones in Warren and Newton Falls shouldn't be a reflection on the majority.

Good news is Police officers are alive! Their training and alertness no doubt saved their lives and possibly other lives if this gun blazing lunatic were never pulled over. Who knows what this guy and partner were involved in! Anybody who jumps out and pops off rounds at the cops can't possibly be a Johnny Do Good!

Oh and 1 more thing for getmeoutofhere.....Howland can only do so much as well as every other police department out there. Trying to keep staffing is hard with small budgets is a hard thing to do. Booming radios have to go on the back burner when it comes to other more serious crimes such as burglaries, people shooting from vehicles, thefts, etc.... Not saying the booming radios are not annoying however, they have to be caught in the act of doing it and spending hours on end at one place how can they justify to other residents why they were sitting in one spot for hours on end waiting for someone with a loud radio.

Country, there was more to it..you will read as time goes on im sure. and MikeMC, how does a police officer exceed their authority when they didn't even get out of the car before taking multiple shots into the vehicle. Point blank this person had a death wish and he got it. If he was that serious he should have taken his own life instead of police doing it. They made the fight of their lives and had to take his. Case in point....Bad Guy 0 Good Guys 1....I hope he enjoys the heat cause its gonna be hot where hes going

Unless there was a crime committed and not stated here, I think the officers must of been harassing him. Maybe he was transporting drugs or etc, that's why he did what he did. Sometimes you have officers that single out someone, and pull them over just to mess with them. To get pulled over and just get out and start shooting, sounds far fetched. Anyway if he was going to do that, he should of took lessons on shooting a gun. But luckily for the officers involved he didn't. I once had a officer that constantly harassed me, until one day I caught him out of his jurisdiction. That was many years ago, but I still remember it well. For some strange reason, the harassment stopped after that. Things was allot different back then, compared to today. Everything wasn't settled with a gun or knife, we used our fists.

Sounds more like a gun-totin' anti-government nutjob, rather than a guy with a loud stereo.

I’d be willing to bet, once Dewine’s office gets involved, we will learn that the officers exceeded their authority and violated the suspects civil rights.

Howland police need to start pulling over these idiots with the booming stereos that drive through the neighborhoods 24/7.
