Half-truths from Bishop Murry

March 3, 2013

DEAR EDITOR: Bishop George Murry is again telling half-truths. The paltry, belated abuse steps he cites are mandatory. They’re required by the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops....

Jot: I only brought JFK up to set some of the misinformed straight. We have been regularly receiving updates from the president of the school, one specifically about the misinformation ( lies) being reported by the media.

*statue of limitations refers to the laws of the land, secular laws. This has been referred to during the media frenzy and is not new or made up by me. Research all video feed available and made public.

The ignorance spewing on here amazes me. I can assure you that in practicing Catholic homes we do not give ANYBODY the benefit of the doubt. I imagine that like in Baptist, Methodist, Lutheran, Jewish, etc. homes we teach our children about personal space, good touch, and bad touch. And this type of abuse isn't a "Catholic" problem...it's a problem...period! And Judy...give it a rest. Your 15 minutes of fame are up. Instead of stirring the hatred, you should focus on the victims who came forward. This type of crazy media is what keeps people from coming forward. They're afraid to get in the media frenzy. And can you leave JFK alone...really? The average age of the current staff there is about 27. They weren't even born when Baker was there. And neither were the students...the kids feel their Blue Pride. The same way students feel Raider Pride, Tiger Pride, Dragon Pride, etc.

. . . and both . . . should never be blindly trusted.

The only thing I see in the Catholic church, is that in the past they first off, mis-understood the crime(or worse yet didn't care), they tried to handle the crime "internally" and they had the allusion that all was rather well, cause the acts weren't hitting the air-waves . . . thanks to the whole mystique, of religion and the ?heirarchy that trickled down to the family itself and to which the "child", was at the lowest rung.

More often than not any . . . even slight suggestion that a "Catholic" clergy did anything "improper", probably got the kid in more trouble than he/she would be willing to accept.

The clergy that wanted to abuse and was good at picking victims . . . had . . . it . . . made.

Religion . . . like government . . . is good, but it's dreadfully wrong when it embeds itself deeply into our lives . . . it(they), end up making . . . things . . . worse . . . yet.

They should both be left at arm's length . . . and both should nev

AND don't forget that pedophiles "learn" their victims.

Just like a lion looking for a stray or weakened prey, a pedophile does exactly the same . . . if they didn't, they wouldn't get away with it for so long.

In their own sick way . . . they know what they're doing and the length of time it takes to finally get them, is a testament to how well and carefully, they pick their victims.

In the Catholic church there is no such thing as statues of limitations.

There are statues of saints . . . but none of limitations . . . oh well.

In any case like this, you have victims who are what we really call "victims", . . . those who have actually been abused in the classic sense.

And, there are those(probably many, many, many more) who's abuse is a little less than "classic", or never got past the "will the kid do it?", stage.

Being a "man of the cloth", most kids would most certainly NOT go home and tell their parents that father such-and-such "might", have "hit" on me or abused me.

Besides, in a practicing Catholic's household the clergy get's the benefit of the doubt . . . by far.

Statues of limitations?

Judy is not local. You say stop the hate and then you insult another church.

Only an idiot would contact the diocese before contacting an attorney. People know their track record on Burns, Hammer, etc.

I agree with MRRJYtown. I am in the JFK community and there is a lot of misinformation being spoon fed to the media, and then irresponsibly reported on. Great journalism! NOT!!! Only God knows from whom or what organization is doing this, that is wrong but not from the Catholic side. The so called 40 to 60 "victims" that supposedly came forward in the Y town diocese supposedly reported to the media.......never approached ytown diocese. Only the original 11 or twelve. Cannot speak to the other diocese Baker was a part of. This hate group is evident. The current administration followed every protocol to report to local authorities even though it was beyond statues of limitations. STOP THE HATE JUDY! You are ignorant to accuse everyone for the sins of one or a few'!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!I bet she is a member of North Mar.

What SNAP and everyone else seems to forget is that abuse happens in EVERY religion, race and creed.

I wouldn't worry about snap. The catholic church is doing a fine job of destoying itself. Too wrong for too long...simple enough.

WarrenProud Your racist Bigoted comments carry no weight, has Murray created a coverup, I do not believe so, he was not even here during those incidents at JFK and I feel he has handled them they best he could with the information provided. I am begining to believe SNAP is a Religious Bogoted Organization who one goal is to try and destroy the Catholoc Church, but I believe that wont happen

Agreed Bishop Murray is in coverup mode. How low the once proud Catholic Church has fallen into disgrace over the pedophiles among it's clergy members and the coverup that has followed.
