Having to pay 15% of your healthcare costs while the rest of us pay about 30% still doesn't seem fair, but I'll take it. The auditor has identified many positions that are not needed on the school staff and groundskeeping. Make the changes, and Niles doesn't have a financial problem and taxpayers no longer need another property tax hike. BOE - do it, do it now!

I hope that all school districts do this . Teaching staff must realize that the standard is 10% or higher for healthcare contributions but most do not want to pay their share .. Gone are the days of paying 5% coverage for teachers .. With the cuts coming the tax payers can not and will not pay more while they are paying less!

I'm all for everyone paying a fair share of their health insurance costs, but whenever I hear "staffing cuts," all I can think of is fewer jobs and more people unemployed. I know that you have to do what you have to do to stay in business, you can't pay people to stand around if you don't need them, but I sure hope these people can find another job.

Daniel - the tax pie is only so large. I pay about 30% of my healthcare costs and think it's okay so should these school employees pay their fair share at 15%. If not, then you either raise property taxes which most seniors and middle class folks can't afford, or layoff more middle class school employees. As for the groundskeepers, these are jobs best done by the private sector middle class employees so no jobs are really lost, just transferred. Since when does school education include cutting grass and plowing snow?

You all need to read the entire report before commenting. There are also mentions of cutting other things like bus routes, art, music, gym, etc. Does that sound like a school Niles kids should have?

Warrenproud, as much as I hate to agree with you. You are correct, if they get rid of the shcool workers for maintenance such as groundskeeping, they will simply hire a private company. So the taxpayers still pay.

Everyone needs to be educated in Agenda 21 and the word Sustainability. The UN and govt has decided that the American way of living is not sustainable. The use of animals for food, suburban housing and car usage is NOT sustainable in their assessment. But, mind you China and all the carbons produced there is allowed.

Samraree: isn't it always harder to gain control over a people or person that is independent and not reliant on govt for the basic necessities of life? A govts.. need to want to control and have power over its population is not a new ideology, and is the direction our govt is headed towards. This administration in d.c. outright ignores the balance of powers within the three branches of govt, dictating at every turn to Congress. Read about Agenda 21. There's a thought process among the elite that there is a population problem...and they think the. Earth cannot sustain providing for us..now we have a lack of bees to pollinate, toxins galore, and GM food.

DST: I dont feel like there has been a change in government..EVER EVER we have the same freedom today that I had as a 17 year old kid... and Even Roosevelt had over had 3000 exec.orders. and during the great depression Handouts were everywhere..and what good was "Control over a people" at that point in time???? what advantage Is "control of a People" in a democracy when the people control the VOTER'S BOX????????...The time to worry is when SOMEONE wants to change WHO votes...
