Schools respond to state budget

School Districts,,,,,welcome to the club. Over the last 8 years, Many divisions of the states employees have had to endure budget cuts, pay freezes, reduction of benefits, reductions of the number of employees, job abolishments, filling full time vacated jobs with part time jobs. This is nothing new to many state divsions and employees, now the school need to figure out how to run without the state funding, just like they did.

I think I read this somewhere. But if it were based on need, how did Aurora Schools get half a million when some schools around here that are in more need than Aurora get little or nothing?

Anyone within Trumbull County should call their school district tomorrow and talk with their superintendent. Ask him or her exactly what cuts have been taken by the district and the staff to respond to budget concerns. Each district is different and you can't paint all districts with the same brush. Some have taken pay freezes for a couple of years and some have not. Some have cut expenses, some not.

Also ask about the number of supervisors/administrators your district has. You can ask through public records salary information. Please include the Trumbull Career and Technical Center and the Trumbull Educational Service Center.

Just to say that you have taken cuts and not checked how others have taken cuts is assuming a lot.

59.9 million to Warren and Niles, 83.1 million to all the rest of Trumbull Co. Aprox. 78 million to Youngstown, and aprox. 79 million to all the rest of Mahoning Co. So much for basing funding on preformance.

Trumbull County pays nearly $11 million a year in administration cost (superintendents and their bloated staffs). None of this funding reaches the classroom for teachers, equipment and materials.

Daniel and Warren: In Trumbull there are 20 school administrators at the 6 figure range. The same number of school superintendents that we had 30 years ago when we had nearly 40% more kids per district. Why do we need to be paying this many administrators while at the expense of the teachers?

82 cents of every tax dollar I pay goes to school. Make some cuts,*****it up & deal with it. When I took a pay cut at my job, WE had to cut out some things & tighten up. You can do the same, unless you propose we borrow more money from China...

If Pam Hood has a problem with the district having no money, then she should stop double dipping. She takes her retirement at 90% of her last pay and the board re-hires her the next week at another near 6 figures.
