Does the intentionally anonymous Tribune editorial board seriously think there's ANYONE left in Trumbull County who DOES NOT know that you people HATE public education?

It has been nearly 2 nweeks since the meeting at Lakeview, and the best you can do is a few mudpies scraped from the Wikipoedia article on Charter Schools?

Is that how they taught you to do journalism and research in WVirginny?

At the meeting, you had the chance to ask John Sheets and Bob Wilson why they aren't drowning in extra money, since ever time a kid leaves to go to a charter school he/she leaves a $3-4000 balance (when you subtract the state foundation money, which goes with the student, from the expenditure per student, the balance of which doesn't go anywhere).

Why didn't you, face to face, in a public forum?

Your understanding of the business of financing schools is puerile at best. That's why. You would have been pretty much laughed out of there.

I really don't have a problem with charter schools as long as they have the same oversight and auditing as public schools. Not all charter schools are filled with drop outs and discipline problem children, yet they don't have the same standards for receiving gooberment funds. I don't like the idea of gooberment funded private business. Any area of service that has done this, historically has provided worse service than the previous gooberment entity that did it previously. Look at mental health, addiction services, highway maintenance, etc... When gooberment agencies they were so tightly regulated that a private business under the same scrutiny wouldn't want the funds.

I've had my children in both public and charter schools. My children were on IEPs all through school. Some of the teachers at the public schools actually made an attempt to follow the IEPs and cared if they were followed, however some of the public teachers had to be "reminded" that it would be in their best interest legally to make sure that it was followed. The teachers at the Charter School were quite spot on with following the IEPs.

Charter schools have destroyed the Ohio education system and have not produced the promised results for those needy students. The time has come to end them in Ohio.

When did the term "charter school" become mainstream?

And antdeb -- we know how much you loathe public education, especially Howland Schools, so why don't you come clean and identify yourself, hmm?

@Raider..you couldn't be more wrong if you tried!! I do not "loathe" public education, in fact it's quite the opposite. Not sure where you got your "info" on me but you are completely off base.

How hilarious for the editors at the Trib to mock reality and their own deeds here? The plain truth is that our public schools are the scapegoat of all scapegoats for society's ills.

People are so anti-public schools they even blame 911 on taking prayer out of public schools.

Watch Adam Curtis' documentary "The Century of the Self" for more insight on what went wrong in America.

In short, "we the people" are more easy to manage (by the elites in both parties) when we are a bunch of spoiled and materialistic consumers immersed in propaganda 24/7.

@antdeb; I've read your diatribes against Howland Schools, and particularly Howland High School, in the past. From what you have posted, you sure are no "friend" of public education or of Howland Schools.

@Raider Just because my tax dOllars are being wasted at Howland Schools by having too many administrators in the high school and Supt. office and I object to that fact does not make me"loathe" public education. It makes me want the Howland School system to be good stewards of my tax dollars. There is a big difference in that. Your reasoning skills need work. Apparently that Warren City School education needs some work!!

Just a bit defensive are we Defeat? Since you don't know who I am don't kid yourself on who or what I know about how school systems are managed!! When they start laying off from the top instead of the bottom I will talk to you ..otherwise not.

Why don't we ever hear from any of the parents that actually have children in any of these charter schools, the only ones we hear from are the public school elites or public union members, lets hear the other side to know the facts.

"Antdeb! I know exactly who defeat is! That's old news!"

Gary knows who I am because his sister-in-law outted me over the holidays, after a couple of glasses of Chardonney. Gary will testify that I'm not John Sheets, which is your (completely erroneous) fantasy, antdeb, born of the completely wishful thought that you would be able to give a full-throated scolding to John Sheets whenever you wanted to.

Of course, Gary started toning down the personal stuff and began to concentrate more on the actual issues when I revealed I knew who he was. It would be bad for business, he knows, to alienate the entire Trumbull County Democratic base by being held to account for how he REALLY feels about most of his customers.

Kind of hard to keep that shop afloat catering only to Republicans in one of the most Democratic counties in the world, eh Gary?

My fantasy, rooted in my own propensity for wishful thinking, is that those who post on this site would stick to the issues; that the temptation to get personal would be held in check; and that SOMEONE (anyone?) would be able to rationally articulate the Republican side on these issues without resorting to name-calling, personal attack, and vulgarities -- all of which I have, I admit, dabbled in during my weaker moments.

But only on the defensive.

And, by the way, antdeb -- now that you know I'm not John Sheets, are you ready to volunteer to help out at the Howland Schools, just so you can kind of see for yourself, first-hand, what goes on?

Huh?

Ummm..well I know you are not John Sheets I figured that out awhile ago so you are wrong on that count Defeat. As far as the volunteering issue..how do you know that I haven't volunteered there for years or perhaps even work there? Again, you don't know!!

No, antdeb, I don't know whether you work or volunteer, or, even, who you are.

But people who have worked in public education usually don't gratuitously bash it, unless the have an axe to grind.

Is that it?

Some insult, or setback, or slight make you want to grind that axe?

Because you come off, in your posts, like a typical "scold" with an axe to grind.

That's just my opinion, based on the incessant fault-finding and disagreeable criticism in the content of your posts.

That's all. Nothing personal.

You're right.

Sating you pulled "facts" out of your aaa*s*s was vulgar; I should have said "Out of your rectal canal," or, better, "out of thin air,"which would have kept it out of the realm of gastroenterology.

Sorry. My bad.
