Until this country is a totally gun free zone, who knows? It's too easy to go down the street to a non-gun free zone now and buy an assault rifle and large magazine at a gun show. Every single country that has gone gun free has reduced the number of murder by guns dramatically. What President Obama is doing is the right thing to protect our kids and he should be supported for doing it.

Warrenproud,

The assault weapon (liberal to english translation: Really scary looking, semi automatic rifle. You pull the trigger once, you get one bullet.) was in the TRUNK of the idiot's car. The kids were killed by a nut with a couple of handguns. This same nut would have been in an asylum if Jimmy Carter hadn't signed the order to close them down (violated their civil rights). Reagan gets blamed because he was enforcing Carter's law.

Never let a tragedy go to waste. Ask the people of Treblinka and Aushwitz how much good gun control did for them. While you're at it, ask the Russian Kulocks, the Great Leap Forward Chinese, and the non Khmer Rouge Cambodians. Wait. You can't. They're all dead. Guns don't kill masses of people, governments kill people.

I can see a criminal now, " OH, shucks, Darn. This is a gun free zone. Wrong place here. I'll just have to go somewhere else."

Any reasonable person who looks at Chicago and the fact that she has the strictest gun control laws in the country along with the highest murder rate with guns can only deduce that gun free zones are not for the safety of people but for the restriction of inalienable rights.

Inalienable; cannot be taken away or given away by the possessor.

"We really have to evaluate what is happening here. We have more than 300 million people in our country, and out of that only a few mass gun attacks have occurred, which apparently were carried out by mentally unstable individuals."

Oh really?

In the first seven weeks after Newtown, there have been more than 1,280 gunshot homicides and accidental deaths in the U.S.

So this is acceptable?

You want to know the effects of gun bans? A real life case in point is available by watching the link attached. You can't argue with this because it is factual and true and happening. Watch ***********youtube****/watch?v=Sv1CRLMTebo

Abe Lincoln;Where is your evidence to support the claim, and I quote; Every single country that has gone gun free has reduced the number of murder by guns dramatically. You have no idea what you are talking about, while on the other hand, go to you tube, type in "Gun Control- Watch what happens when guns are banned" for real actual proof that ignorant uninformed statements such as yours are far from the truth. In addition, in Switzerland 8 million people own about 2.3 million firearms. But firearms were used in just 24 Swiss homicides in 2009, a rate of about 0.3 per 100,000 inhabitants. The U.S. rate that year was about 11 times higher.More stats? So how about a country that actually bans guns? Since 2003, Brazil has come close to fitting that description. Only police, people in high-risk professions and those who can prove their lives are threatened are eligible to receive gun permits. Anyone caught carrying a weapon without a permit faces up to four years on prison.

So, I ran out of space, here are the balance of facts on Brazil, where weapons are strictly controlled - Brazil also tops the global list for gun murders. According to a United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime study in 2011, 34,678 people were murdered by firearms in Brazil in 2008, compared to 34,147 in 2007. The numbers for both years represent a homicide-by-firearm rate of 18 per 100,000 inhabitants — more than five times higher than the U.S. rate. People who cite bull, meaning you, Abe, without supporting evidence should keep their ignorance to themselves.

"as an unknown writer put it "laws that forbid the carrying of arms, disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes. Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed one.'

This is not something Jefferson wrote, but rather comes from a passage he included in his "Legal Commonplace Book." The passage is from Cesare Beccaria's Essay on Crimes and Punishments.

Do you think, just maybe, that circumstances (re: assault weapons and high capacity magazines and military grade ammo in the hands of private citizens) have changed in the intervening 200 years?

Just a little?

The "right" to keep and bear an AR-15 is not an immutable law of nature.

Unlike you, yea some of us can think.

Wasn't any internet back in the 1700s. Maybe you should stop wasting everyone's time posting your ignorance.

They weren't stupid (unlike Hosephine). They knew that technology would advance.

You don't like it or rights then leave.

Sad when some chick that never served decides what right others should have.

Warrenproud. Read this real slow, read it twice. I do not care if you make this country a 100% gun free zone. You will NEVER stop to sale of illegal guns. If someone wants agun, they WILL get one. You think it is easy to buy a gun now? It will be easier if you go totally no guns allowed. Legal owners now get background checks and need permits. If you make it so they can not get guns, you will simply see an increase of black market guns. NOW you will have what were once law abiding gun owners, buying guns that there will be no record of. AND, if you make this country gun free, THEN, the military, ran byt the government, has full 100% control. Is that what you want?

The answer lies in the justice system. Make commiting crimes with a gun a life sentence, or a death sentence depending on the crime. You kill with a gun, you die. Pretty simple. No jail time, you DIE. Preferably by one shot between the ears. If you want to stop gun crime, make it a CRIME. Not something thugs can plea bargain out of.

"The media insist that crime is the major concern of the American public today. In this connection they generally push the point that a disarmed society would be a crime-free society. They will not accept the truth that if you take all the guns off the street you still will have a crime problem, whereas if you take the criminals off the street you cannot have a gun problem." - Col. Jeff Cooper-

I think Col. Cooper sums it up nicely

Ft Hood ~~~ Registered Democrat ~ Muslim

Columbine ~~~ Too young to vote; both families were registered Democrats and progressive liberals

Virginia Tech ~~~ Wrote hate mail to President Bush and to his staff ~ Registered Democrat

Colorado Theater ~~~ Registered Democrat; staff worker on the Obama campaign; Occupy Wall Street participant; progressive liberal

Connecticut School Shooter ~~~ Registered Democrat; hated Christians

lol....maybe we should just take the guns off the whacko democrats. they seem to be a constant with these shooters too.

i wonder how many of the inner city shootings that happen across the country are from registered republicans. i'd say less than 1%. all the drug addicts and poor people that dont want to work are democrats.

i'd be willing to bet at least 90% of gun murderes are democrats.

who wants God out of every discussion....democrats

who is for planned parenthood, one of the biggest racist scam organizations in America...democrats

who is for gun controls, universal background checks, and universal registration on all Americans because of the actions of a microscopic few...democrats.

who wants to make all illegal immigrants suddenly legal citizens....democrats

who was against the wars while a republican was president, now all of a sudden hypocritically flip flopped and are now not only pro-war, but also pro-arming the terrorists groups now that a democrat is president....democrats.

i mean, you people are on the wrong side of every moral, spiritual, legal, and constituional issue i look at. LOL!

Gun free zones are a joke. The only people that care about being free of a gun are law abiding citizens. Criminals obviously don't care if they are not allowed to carry a gun in gun free zone.
