To boost consumer confidence I presume? I know of 3 empty homes in my neighborhood, 2 foreclosures and 1 estate that have been sold in last year or so. Prices were barely above old tax accessments Approx 6-7years ago. The 2 foreclosed Sat empty for least 3 years. Of course I don't live in a thriving megatropolis suburb, but not crime ridden ghetto. Still at least 5 empties within 2 blocks around. Sad.

"Could this increase in NATIONAL AVERAGE also be misleading in that vacant and or foreclosed homes sales have increased?"
featherstone....yes. thats what the feds program is all about. detroit is becoming an absolute slum. hosuing in that city is awful. however, let the fed use some of that 45 billion every month to swoop in and buy up a bunch of foreclosed homes and BINGO!...home sales jump as do home prices bacuse look...everybodys buying a home.
its the american dream!

The average was based on a relatively small number of cities, San Frans real estate has always been high , Pheonix also. The Detroit thing throws a curve, Maybe.. just maybe it has to do with the local economies of individual cities, which Yes could bring an average price up. Again misleading.

Could this increase in NATIONAL AVERAGE also be misleading in that vacant and or foreclosed homes sales have increased? That would surely increase overall, Z, I'm not brightest campfire on the mountain but yes I understand The Media doesn't make the numbers up.

WASHINGTON (AP) -- "The U.S. economy shrank from October through December for the first time since the recession ended, hurt by the biggest cut in defense spending in 40 years, fewer exports and sluggish growth in company stockpiles. The decline occurred despite faster growth in consumer spending and business investment. The Commerce Department said Wednesday that the economy contracted at an annual rate of 0.1 percent in the fourth quarter."
they are blaming it on...get this...spending cuts! L.MAO!!! you cant make up what they are making up!
we live in make believe land. its gonna get bad. all the pretty inflated numbers they have been given us to make the weak believe recovery is here....are going to be unvieled quickly and harshly over the coming 2 months. :)

This increase is due to the federal reserve pumpimg 45 billion a month every month into the mortgage market. Its artificial....inflation.
You are cheerleading the federal reserve, a private bank that controls our money and sets the interest rate. Neither one is the respinsibility of a private bank.
Inflation.

The media only reports the numbers they don't don't make them. Flat home sales DO NOT increase home values. Values up with out any doubt are from more homes being sold. I'm glad your own your own frequency ....... LOL

Price of homes is up and down almost as much as gas! I don't trust numbers posted by media, besides if prices are up doesn't necessary mean more are selling, at least not around this area. What the F*#@ does it have to do with Obama , nothing.

Lets just price everyone out of purchasing a home again. Prices going up is always frowned on, but when home prices go up its the best news ever.
