Liberty students fare well on state tests

August 31, 2008

LIBERTY — Two of three of the district’s schools earned effective ratings and the third — W. S. Guy Middle School — was rated excellent in the state report card. “We were so close,” Superintendent Mark Lucas said. “Based on these results, we know what we are doing. We still have to make some improvements.” For the second year, the district earned an overall effective rating. It was one of 11 area schools that earned an effective rating. Eight schools received excellent ratings and two received excellent with distinction ratings. Liberty’s scores have been improving every year, Lucas said. While the district’s staff is disappointed it did not earn an overall excellent rating, Lucas said they realize the district is moving closer to that goal every year. William S. Guy Middle School passed six of the 14 indicators in which middle school students are given achievement tests. Middle school students take fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth grade achievement tests.
