Memorial Garden planned for Girard

May 5, 2008

By RAYMOND L. SMITH Girard Community News GIRARD — The Girard Homecoming Association is hoping to use $90,000 it has accumulated over the years to build a Memorial Garden on the site of the old Clark Gas station at the corner of North State and Kline streets. The proposed garden will have a gazebo, several brick pathways, trees, planting areas, lighting and fencing. If approved, the Memorial Garden will be across from the municipal courthouse and city administration building. “We are not asking the city to provide any financial assistance,” said Nick Panno, president of the Girard Homecoming Association. The non-profit organization said they plan to have everything done for the project and then turn it over to the city. It is looking to hire Schultz’s Universal Inc. to construct the gazebo and the landscaping of the property, if the city agrees to the project.
