| | Grohl isn't the only artist worthy of cheers SaturdayJuly 31, 2009 - Andy GrayMany people are expected to flock to downtown Warren Saturday for the dedication of Dave Grohl Alley, in honor of the Foo Fighters frontman and Nirvana drummer. Grohl, who was born in Warren, is expected to attend the dedication, and he has asked for drum kits and an acoustic guitar to be available to him, so it’s likely he will say thank you with a song or two. Those coming down to catch a glimpse of Grohl in Courthouse Square should make sure to walk through Dave Grohl Alley on the way. The murals created by local artists are on the walls and look marvelous. Grohl should be honored by the artistry his music inspired. The murals were painted by Kip Minnick, John Mechling, Scott Chopko, Thad Minnick, Cindy Sahli, Rebecca Greiner and Kristen Tenzek. Grohl undoubtedly will get most of the cheers on Saturday. But it’s the work created by those artists that will be the lasting legacy of the project. And don't forget to show some love for the bands who will perform before the dedication on Saturday and have been performing all week in Courthouse Square. Granted, the weather has been unpredictable, but the crowds downtown have been, to put it charitably, less than massive. You never know, 10 years from now, we may be naming an alley after one of them. Article CommentsNo comments posted for this article. Post a Comment | |
