| | PETA, potholes and KFCApril 22, 2009 - Frank RobinsonIt's a shame how some people or organizations try to do something nice and get overshadowed in the process. That is the case with the KFC/PETA flap. It seems the city of Warren recently was chosen as part of Kentucky Fried Chicken's "Re-Fresh the Streets" pothole repair program. The restaurant's offer would give the city -- one of our cities across the country -- $3,000 for pothole repairs. The only requirement would be that a stencil in street chalk, whatever street chalk is, be put on the patched pothole and it would say, "Re-Freshed by KFC." Harmless enough. A decent publicity stunt. Then, along came the controversial group People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals. Members of that group said they would double the offer, only if the city would use a stenciled logo on the potholes saying KFC tortures animals and put horns on Col. Sanders in the logo. How silly. It's a shame that this original and unique idea got overshadowed by PETA. There are many KFC restaurants across the country producing products, generating jobs and paying taxes. Can't say a lot about PETA doing that locally.
